Hello Tucker!!

Hello Puppers ~

Meet MaPaw’s newest member…..Tucker!

This handsome boy is a Husky/Collie mix and is just 8 months old. He is a sweet and playful pup who is making friends with everyone he meets!

Tucker’s family fell on hard times and couldn’t provide a proper home for him. His family is heartbroken that they could no longer keep him, but they felt they had to do what was best for Tucker. He stayed overnight with one of our volunteers and will make his way to his foster home tonight.

Since he just came in last night, we are getting to know Tucker and will post updates soon!

Callie Visits Her Neurologist

As you may recall, Callie has been on medications for epilepsy for most of her life. In fact, the reason that she joined MaPaw when she was just 10 months old was because her family could not afford to care for her condition. Initially, it was believed that we could get her medications regulated and she would be able to start her search for a furever home. Unfortunately, Callie’s seizures were so severe and so frequent that we felt the best home for her would be the foster home that she was already in. So Callie became a permanent resident of MaPaw!

Callie is such a character and plays nonstop with her foster siblings! If you watch her play, you can see that she has suffered some brain damage from her multiple grand mal seizures.

About a year ago, Callie’s foster Mum decided to take her to a neurologist to make sure that we were doing everything we could for this sweet little gal. From the first time they met Dr. Northington, both Callie and her foster Mum just loved him. Over the past year, Callie’s medications have been tweaked so we can best control her seizures. She still has seizures, but they are not nearly as frequent and severe as they were when she first came to MaPaw.

When Callie visited Dr. Northington on Monday, she got some really exciting news…… He felt that Callie no longer needed all of the medications that she was currently taking, so he took her off one of them.

We are so happy for Miss Callie! While she will always have seizures, we are so grateful that we have been able to control them with Dr. Northington’s help (of course). Way to go Callie!!!

Get to Know Dakota

This redhead with the golden soulful eyes is Dakota, who is estimated to be 4 to 5 years old. Before he joined MaPaw, he was 1 of 9 Huskies living in a home where they were left for days without food and water. Unfortunately, they never received the type of socialization that we Huskies thrive on.

When Dakota joined MaPaw, he was very shy and had no confidence. Thanks to the love and dedication of his foster parents and foster siblings, this handsome boy is gaining more confidence every day. He has learned to trust humans again and enjoys their company.

Even though Dakota has made such great progress, he is still quite timid when he meets new people. Once he learns to trust you, he is a loyal companion for life. He’s looking for a special family that understands how special Dakota really is.

We are so proud of his accomplishments and are excited for him to find his furever home!

RJ’s Trip to The Eye Doctor

Hello Puppers ~

RJ had his appointment with the eye doc on Monday. In true cute Husky puppy style ~ he charmed everyone he met!!

How could you not fall in love with this pup?

RJ has been diagnosed with uveitis, which is an inflammation of the middle layer of the eye. This condition was caused by an untreated infection early in his life, probably starting in the umbilical cord. This caused pressure in both eyes which led to the collapse of both optic nerves. While he may be able to see limited shadows, the Doc doesn’t think that he sees much of anything.

The Doc seems to think that if RJ ever had sight, it was most likely during the first month of his life.

He’s got some medication to keep the pressure in his eyes down. If we are able to keep the pressure in his eyes down for the next 30 days, there’s a good chance that we can help him avoid developing glaucoma.

Even though the wee Pup can’t see, it certainly hasn’t slowed him down. Don’t believe me? Check out his video!

Enjoy!

Who is That Cute Redhead?

Good morning Puppers ~

Meet RJ ~

This sweet little boy joined MaPaw on Friday and has been making himself very comfortable at his foster home.

As you can see in the picture, RJ’s eyes are bulging. Before he came to MaPaw, he was being treated for an eye infection. Today he will be visiting the eye doctor so we can find out exactly what’s going on with this poor boy’s eyes. We want to get his treatment started so we can get him on the road to recovery!

We’re keeping our paws crossed and sending RJ lots of sibe vibes!

Check back for an update once we get the diagnosis from the Doc!

3 Pups Find Their Furever Homes in 1 Weekend!!!!

Hello Puppers ~

This weekend was another busy weekend at MaPaw. Two of our foster homes were helping their foster pups find their furever homes.

First up was Kye. This handsome bi-eyed pup had originally been found as a stray. He patiently waited for the perfect home and he found it with John and Kelly!!

Next pup was Kye’s foster brother, Matrix. He was actually a stray that came from the same shelter as Kye. Matrix first met his new family at a meet and greet, where it was love at first sight for everyone!

Our third boy to find his furever home this weekend was Timber. Timber’s family had previously adopted Loki from MaPaw. Both boys had actually stayed at the same foster home during their time with MaPaw. When their foster Mum started to fill out the adoption paperwork for Timber she realized that Timber was actually being adopted on the one year anniversary of Loki’s adoption! Timber and Loki are already best buds!!

Congrats to our 3 boys and their new families!!

Shelter Sibe Finds Furever Home with MaPaw Alum

Hello Puppers ~

I just love to post about happy tails and this one is so stinking awesome!!!

Each week, a bunch of our volunteers take to the internet and check the website listings of all of the shelters within our adoption area looking for shelter Sibes and Sibe Mixes. Since we don’t have enough room to bring all of them into MaPaw, it is our hope that by listing all of the pups in one place they will get more exposure to families looking specifically for Sibes or Sibe Mixes. Of course, we love it when a MaPaw pup finds his/her furever home, but sometimes our dogs may not be a perfect fit whereas another pup in a shelter might.

Pauly is a shining example of why our volunteers dedicate their time each week to check the area shelters. He had been listed on our Shelter Dogs Page when he was first seen by Bella’s family. You may remember Bella, a black and white beauty that was adopted earlier this year. Unfortunately, her sibeling passed away and she was quite lonely. Her family felt that Bella really needed a playmate, but they wanted to make sure that they found the perfect one for her and for their family. After weeks of looking, they saw Pauly and decided to meet him. Here’s a pic of him from the shelter ~

Bella and her family fell in love with him. He is now called Hunter and has proven to be a wonderful addition to their family!

We are so excited for Bella, Hunter and their family! We hope to see pictures and updates soon (hint hint)…..

2 Months Until the Hike N Howl!!!

Good evening Puppers ~

Did you know that it’s exactly 2 months from today until the Hike N Howl in Tyler State Park???

Last year was so much fun and a great success. We are looking forward to even more rescues, vendors and hikers this year.

Hike N Howl is an annual event organized by the Alliance of Northern Breed Rescues (MaPaw and Delaware Valley SHR). This event is an opportunity for two rescues that share the same mission to gather their resources in order to raise much-needed funds for both of the rescues.

There will be other rescues joining us in the park to showcase their available pets and educate about their organization. There will also be pet-related vendors. We are excited to be able to offer CGC testing again this year as well. There will something for everyone at this year’s Hike N Howl!

Click here to learn more about the Hike!

If you are interested in hiking, click here to register today!

Please come join us for a fun-filled day in the park and make a difference by helping us help our homeless canine companions.

Hope to see you there!!

New Pup Alert…

Hello Puppers ~

I wanted to introduce you to the newest addition to the MaPaw family. Meet Diesel….

He’s approximately 1 year old and was relinquished by his owners due to an undiagnosed allergy. My Mum picked him up yesterday and took him straight to the vet. It turns out that this poor guy was infested with fleas (yuck!). The vet thinks that this could be the reason for his flaky skin and patchy hair loss. MaPaw got him started on some flea/tick stuff and we’ll give him a nice long bath to help soothe his dry skin.

As if the fleas weren’t bad enough ~ this poor guy is underweight. I could count his ribs just looking at him! That makes me so very sad…

He’s a great dog and couldn’t wait to say hello to everyone he met. He is such a cool guy (and handsome too…) and we can’t wait to get to know him better!!

Welcome Diesel!
