Kosmo

Age: 1 – 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Kosmo!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Kosmo is a “classic” black and white husky with piercing blue eyes that is estimated to be one to two years old. He just recently joined his MaPaw foster home and we are still getting to know him.

Kosmo had been found as a stray and taken to the shelter. There he sat patiently waiting for his family to come and take him back home. Unfortunately for him, they never came. Fortunately for us, we now have the opportunity to help him find his forever home.

We are helping this young pup learn his manners while he readies to find his forever home. We can tell you that he is an active boy (as typical young Huskies are) and loves to play! He is getting on with the pups in his foster home and has made friends at the dog park.

We are learning more about Kosmo each day. Check back soon for updates!

Meet Coda

Hello Puppers ~
I’d like to introduce you to Coda. He is a very handsome (that’s what my Mum said) 1 1/2 year old Sibe that really needed MaPaw’s help. First, here’s a photo of him:

Okay ~ so here is Coda’s story. On Wednesday night, MaPaw was contacted about a pup that had escaped his yard and had been shot by a farmer who thought he was a coyote. His femur had been shattered and his family was devastated that they couldn’t afford the surgery he needed to save his life. This boy was way out of MaPaw’s area, but we knew that we were his only chance. We agreed to bring him to MaPaw and arrange the necessary veterinary care.

Early Thursday morning, we put out a plea to our volunteers with transport assistance. In no time, we had the transport ready to go. Have I mentioned we have the best volunteers EVER?!!! Coda’s owners offered to drive him as far as they could. They met up with Deb M. who took him to meet Dave and Karen C. who would be taking him to the Farm. Through the entire trip, Coda had kisses for everyone he met.

Bright and early Friday morning, Coda was loaded into the car and off he went to the vet for a thorough examination and x-rays. Dr. Ross (Schwenksville Vet) had a feeling that a specialist he knew might be able to mend the leg rather than amputate. After a phone consult, Coda was whisked off to Metropolitan Vet for a closer look at his x-rays. After a thorough discussion, we thought it might be in Coda’s best interest to amputate his leg. We were so hopeful that we would be able to save his leg. After more discussions with the specialist, he really felt that the surgery would be successful. We decided to have the surgery to mend his leg.

On Friday afternoon, he had the surgery done and we were on pins and needles waiting for word on how the surgery went. Finally the call we had waited for ~ everything went well and Coda was recovering nicely. The next morning brought more good news ~ Coda had slept through the night, had some breakfast and was doing wonderfully.

Metropolitan Vet has offered for Coda to stay with them for the next couple of weeks where he will be monitored 24/7 and kept quiet so he can heal. Once he is released from Metropolitan, he will return to the Farm where he will finish his recovery.

The total cost of Coda’s surgery has been capped at $4300. His stay with Metropolitan will be done as a courtesy. Any donations toward Coda’s care will be greatly appreciated and humbly accepted. If you would like to donate to Coda’s care, you can do so below or you can donate directly to Metropolitan Vet by calling 610.666.1050 and tell them it’s for MaPaw Siberian Husky Rescue.

We are so grateful that we have the opportunity to help Coda. He is an amazing pup that will make a great companion for a very lucky family when he is finally ready to begin his forever home search. We know that his family is heartbroken that they had to let him go, but they know that they did the best thing they could do for Coda. We will take wonderful care of him while he is with us and we are excited for the future he has to look forward to!

Welcome to MaPaw, Coda!

One Pup Finds a Home, Another Finds the Farm

Hello Puppers ~

On Tuesday, Kita made her way to the MaPaw Farm. Kita is a 13 year old beauty with a gentle face and loving eyes.

We had originally been contacted about her situation in August, but were ecstatic when we found out someone she knew was going to care for her. Sadly a few short months later, we again were contacted because Kita had found herself at the shelter when that person could no longer care for her. Tentative arrangements had been made when we were contacted by the shelter and told that someone had adopted Kita. We were so happy for Kita. Unfortunately, just a short time later, she was back to the shelter.

When we were contacted by the shelter, we immediately made arrangements to get her to the Farm. We weren’t taking any chances that Kita would ever find herself at the shelter again!

If left too long, she does have accidents which is why she was brought back to the shelter the last time. So she would need to go to a home where she wouldn’t be left for too long. She is not quite used to all of the Husky activity of the Farm, but she is finding her space and slowly warming up to her roommates. She really is a lovely pup and we are happy that we could help her during her “golden” years. Welcome Kita!

Now ~ who was the lucky pup that found their home???

Victoria!!! She really is a love and has been a well-mannered pup at her foster home. When she met her new family, she charmed them right away. Look how happy they all are….

I have a feeling that Victoria (or Vicky as she prefers to be called) is going to be one spoiled pup! Congratulations Vicky!!!

North and Sascha

Age: 6 Years, 7 Years
Sex: Male/Female
Size: Average

Congratulations North and Sascha!!!

North and Sascha are two loving Siberians ready to face the world together. This pair has been with each other for years and are best buds – they comfort, entertain and hang out together. Both are indoor dogs and crate trained. Life changes have made it necessary for them to find a new family to call their own ~ we don’t want them to lose each other.

North is six years old and is a handsome black and white male who is playful, friendly and loving. He also loves to go for walks, but needs some leash work to curb his pulling. He is a smart boy ~ he knows sit, stay and come. He also loves any type of attention and being around Sascha and the rest of the family.

Sascha is a seven year old white female who is very sweet and loving. She is pretty mellow and enjoys hanging out in her opened crate. She enjoys going for walks and does tend to pull like a husky. She absolutely adores attention. She is a girly girl and doesn’t like to get her paws wet when it rains.

North and Sascha have been loved members of their family for many years. Sadly, the family has concluded they are not getting the attention they deserve due to medical reasons within the family. They want to do what is best for the pair, even if it means letting them go to a wonderful home that will love and spoil them.

North and Sascha have been trained through Barkbusters and come with a transferable lifetime membership. If you are looking for a loving pair of huskies that are calmer and love to exercise and play, please consider these two wonderful dogs.

Brooke

Age: 2 1/2 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Petite

Congratulations Brooke!!!

Brooke is a petite red and white Siberian Husky with a huge heart. This little girl is 2 1/2 years old and she just loves to play with other dogs. She plays nicely (husky style) and gets along with all dogs she has met her size or larger.

Brooke is trustworthy in the house and loves to snuggle. She is crate trained, however, has earned full house privileges in her foster home. She loves to sneak in bed during the night to warm your feet.

Brooke came into our care with her “sister” Meadow, another petite Siberian. While it may not be necessary for both girls to be adopted as a bonded pair, we feel that they need to go to homes with other canine playmates to keep them company. If you are considering adopting two huskies (which are actually easier than one), these girls may be perfect for you!

Victoria

Age: Approximately 2  Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Victoria!!!

Victoria is a beautiful white Siberian Husky/German Shepherd with a soft, luxurious coat and bi-eyes (one brown eye and one blue eye) who is approximately two years old. She somehow lost her family along the way and found herself as a guest at the shelter. When we met her we immediately knew she was a wonderful girl that needed a little help to find her second leash on life.

Victoria ~ Vicky to her friends ~ is a very social girl with both other dogs and people. She enjoys a good romp with her canine friends and then quality time with the rest of the family. She has great qualities from both breeds in her. All she needs now is a forever home she can love…

If you are looking for a lifetime companion that will love you just for being you, please ask about Miss Victoria!

Goodbye Lucky

Hello Pups –
I am very sad to have to share with you that our Lucky has begun her final journey North of the Rainbow Bridge.

When we were contacted about Lucky, her human Mom was already in the hospital and there was nobody left to care for Lucky and her canine siblings. Since the other pups were younger, they were easier for family members to place. However, Lucky at 12 years old, was much more difficult. When she joined her foster home, Lucky made no waves with the other dogs in the house. She simply observed their interaction with each other and the humans in the house. This wallflower wouldn’t seek out attention from humans, but would tolerate their touch (only for a short time) until she retreated to her safe zone.

In September, Lucky came to the Farm. Her first mission was to find her safe zone, which turned out to be the upstairs bathroom. She came downstairs to eat and go outside, but usually spent most of her day in her safe zone. Frequent visitors to the Farm giving her gentle pets and kind words started to help Lucky come out of her shell. She slowly starting to seek out attention from her visitors.

Lucky was definitely a peanut compared to the rest of the pups at the Farm, weighing in at only 32 pounds. However, that didn’t stop her from bulldozing her way through a crowd of huskies to get wherever it was she was going.

In December, we began to realize that Lucky’s health was slowly deteriorating and we felt it was time for her to enter MaPaw’s hospice program. Her foster Mom made her all of her favorite foods ~ chicken, mac & cheese, bread and lots of special treats.

In the last 2 weeks, she was having trouble walking and her eyes said that she was getting tired. On Saturday, it became clear that Lucky was ready. Surrounded by those who love her, Lucky passed peacefully.

Wear your silver harness proudly, dear Lucky. We miss you terribly, but you are free of pain. Now you can run and play as a young pup. There were many waiting to welcome you at the Bridge. You will forever be in our hearts.

~ Scout

Congratulations Sadie!!!

Hello Pups –
Another one of MaPaw’s foster pups has found her home. Sadie had actually been with her foster home since August 2010 when she had been sprung from the shelter. We still aren’t sure what breed(s) she is, but we do know that she is a wonderful and sweet dog who definitely deserved a second chance. She patiently waited for a family to call her own and she finally found it! And it was well worth the wait.

Congratulations Sadie!!!

Welcome to the Newbies…

Hello Puppers ~
Over the last few days, we’ve had 3 new pups join MaPaw foster homes.

The first pup to join us was Brodie ~ a handsome white boy. He had been adopted from the shelter and within the last year, he found himself at the same shelter 7 times after escaping from his yard. Once his owner realized that Brodie wasn’t safe at their house, the shelter felt it would be best for him to find a sibe-savvy home. When we were contacted by the shelter, we were happy to help Brodie find the right home for him. He is a tall boy who is full of energy. He is learning his manners in his foster home and is enjoying playing with the pups in his foster home.

The next pup to join one of our foster homes is Harley. This gentle giant was brought to the shelter when her owners could no longer care for her as they had too many pets. The shelter contacted MaPaw because they were concerned that she was not doing well in the shelter environment. When she reached her foster home, she bounded in and began to immediately make friends. We believe that she is a Husky/Malamute/Shepherd mix, however, she also closely resembles a Native American Indian dog. We do know that she is an absolute love who enjoys the company of canines and humans.

Two nights ago, Bryce joined his MaPaw foster home. Bryce and Brodie have a few things in common. Okay I’ll state the obvious common thread ~ they’re both all-white Husky pups. What else do they have in common? Bryce also had multiple return trips to the shelter after he had escaped his yard. Bryce is a very social boy that makes friends with everyone he meets. He is learning his manner and knows “no” and “sit”.

Welcome to Brodie, Harley and Bryce! We are so happy that you each found your way to MaPaw.

~ Scout

Bryce

Age: 2 – 3 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Bryce!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Bryce is a two to three year old, all white Siberian Husky with striking ice blue eyes who found himself as a stray at the local shelter three different times. Bryce is now looking for a sibe-savvy home that will keep him safe and sound and finally give him the forever home he deserves.

Bryce is housebroken and knows some simple commands like “No” and “Sit”. He seems very respectful in the house and is eager to please – always a great trait in a Siberian! Bryce is a very smart boy and is fast becoming a favorite at his foster home. However, like most huskies, if he is given the opportunity to escape he will take it without looking back. Due to this reason, Bryce will require a home with a sturdy and secure six-foot fence to ensure his safety.

Although Bryce is dog friendly (he gets along with everyone), he is very picky about which dogs he would like to play with. Playing with other dogs in a backyard won’t be enough for this boy. It has become apparent that this boy was built to RUN!!! Any home that would like to consider Bryce will absolutely need to run this boy (on leash of course)!! Whether it is frequent trips to the dog park (2-3 times a week), dog scootering/biking or as a running partner – Bryce will absolutely require an outlet outside of the house where he will be able to stretch his legs. In addition, he doesn’t necessarily need a multi-dog family as he is much more people oriented.

If you are an active person looking for a partner to exercise and have fun times with, Bryce may be just the pup for you!
