Hi Puppies! It’s me – Sammy! I hope everydoggy had a good weekend. Did you make it to the Reading Pet Expo? My mom said it was a howling good time! (She’s so silly) The Mapaw foster dogs got to get out and shmooze with the crowd. That’s one thing huskies are good at: working the crowd. Lots of people stopped by to ask about the rescue and pet the pooches. Here are some pictures my mom took of the Mapaw booth:

That looks like fun… I wonder why I wasn’t invited. Hmmm… I DID just pass my canine good citizens test (you’re impressed, aren’t you?) so I would have been happy to show off my good obedience. I probably had a better time napping on the couch with my good friends Trapper and Shadow. Here we are out for a walk:

Hello Puppies! Sammy here. I’m very excited to be helping with the MaPaw blog. Being an only dog, I usually only get to share stories with my mom. She’s cool and all, but I do some pretty awesome stuff that the world needs to hear about!

Here’s a little update on what’s going on in my world: I am half way through my obedience classes. They are pretty fun, actually! Nicole from Cubby’s Canine Castle in Bluebell, PA is my trainer. I go to daycare there too so she and I hang out a lot. I’d recommend it to any puppies in the area.!

Dawkin is also in my class so I get to hear about his new family. He likes them a lot and is being a good husky by giving them a hard time in class. He’ll have them trained very soon (or should that be the other way around?). Mom says I’m a perfect student when it’s just her and me: I get distracted when other pups are around ­ but who wouldn’t?! Daycare is a lot of fun, too. They say that I’m “funny” – the good kind of funny, though ­ promise! I led them on a 10 minute chase one day when I got the zoomies in the play area. Hehehe. I’m so fast that everybody has a hard time catching me. It’s quite a fun game to play with bi-peds, but they never look very happy until I let them win.

Hi puppies, I know, I know, it has been a long time since I wrote anything. Sometimes I just cannot keep up with everything I want to do, so I have asked a friend of mine if she could help me out on the blog. The little, brown dog in the foreground here is my friend, Sammy. She was referred through MaPaw when she was looking for a new home. That means she never lived with a MaPaw foster family, but stayed with her first family while MaPaw looked for a new home, then she went directly there. Sammy and her new mom were happy to have found each other, so they decided to volunteer for MaPaw and help some other puppies in need.
When I started fostering Radar I said, Hey, you should meet this other little, brown dog I know, and Sammy came over to my house to play for a while. She liked Radar best because they are both small and quick, so they could play really fast games of chase.
So, in case you were wondering, everyone here is doing fine and we are still fostering Radar. I will catch you up on some details, but in the meantime, welcome Sammy to blogland and hear about some of her adventures.

Well Puppies, after Bella’s visit here we were ready for our next foster dog. Meet Radar. He had been out wandering but someone caught him and took him to a shelter so he would not have to suffer the cold weather. Mama and Papa took Blue to evaluate Radar and thought he seemed like a nice doggie, so he came to live with us until he finds a home. Radar was not doing very well at the shelter. He barked a lot at other male dogs and was skittish around people, but after being with us a few days he is really coming out of his shell. He did not have any trouble meeting all the boys (and one girl) here, but he did not want to play right away. I guess it is pretty intimidating for a little dog to come into a pack of big dogs.

Radar is a handsome mix of browns, tans, and black. We thought he looked a bit like a Shiba Inu, so we looked into that breed and found that they come in this color scheme, called sesame. Shiba’s are generally lively, independent, fearless dogs. They love being around people and other dogs, but are not usually good with smaller pets like rodents. That description sounds a lot like a Husky to me.As Radar is gaining confidence at our house he is definitely showing that lively spirit (and getting into some trouble with Mama and Papa) so we are happy to play with him and help him eat the food he steals from the table and counters. I always enjoy learning about other breeds when we get to foster mixes.

Oh, Puppies, we were just talking about how big Rocky Pup is getting and now we get to share his good news. That is right, he found a home! Rocky Pup made a family with a couple other MaPaw alums after a few visits to make sure everyone would get along fine.

You can see from the photo how excited his new siblings are to greet him. His daddy has to hold them back while Rocky Pup has a chance to settle into his new space. Rocky Pup looks right at home with all those red heads. Another MaPaw dog will be home for the holidays!

Hi Puppies, allow me to introduce you to our city girl, Bella. Bella was living in an apartment in Brooklyn, but all her energy just did not fit into that little space, so she has moved out here to find a new family and an outlet for her playful exuberance.

Haha! Okay, seriously, though, she is a very playful girl. Everyone here takes turns running and wrestling with her until we are all ready for a nap. She is still just a pup and always ready for a game.Bella is just stopping by my house for a few days, but she was here in time to help Papa hang the Christmas decorations. Now we can all feel festive during naptime.Pretty soon it will be time to put a tree in the living room and tell Santa about the toys and treats I want. That is my favorite time of year.

This Thanksgiving I am especially thankful to all the long-term MaPaw members who have kept us strong throughout the years and to all the new supporters and volunteers who have joined us this year to help us grow. Thank you all.

Liz and Ken live in a beautiful old house on a small farm in New Jersey. They have had Labradors in the past, but were looking for a less rambuctious adult dog. Since they have a Greater Swiss granddog, they browsed Petfinder for that breed and came across Maverick. He was exactly the sort of quiet, adult dog they needed. When Maverick arrived home, he ran excitedly through every room and thanked Liz for not having any other dogs. Mama and Papa talked about Maverick’s stressful reaction to entering our home, but of course he did not have that reaction when he moved to his forever home.

So now Maverick is a New Jersey farmer. Liz has updated us since the big day. Maverick has been a wonderful match for their family. He gets plenty of one-on-one play time with his humans and sleeps in their bed when they are away from home. He plays nicely with his canine cousins, but is happy to go back to his own home. We are so happy for Maverick and his new family.

Hey everypuppy, Blue here! So, I’ve started going to school a couple days a week at Dog Town. I get to play with all different kinds of dogs from Chesapeake Bay Retrievers to Chihuahuas and best of all, I don’t have any poo accidents in the house!

Well, besides going there for school, I also go for playdates with some of my MaPaw friends. Foster dogs and permanent dogs get together to mingle off lead. We don’t have to behave nicely like we try to do at meet & greets. Today, though, I want to talk about one particular dog I got to visit at Dog Town on Sunday, Rocky Pup! Okay, now, I have to start with a picture of Rocky Pup shortly after he came to MaPaw at the end of July. Here he is napping in the grass at a meet & greet after all the hard work of having people fawn over him. It’s exhausting to be a puppy.

Then here he is getting a drink at the Hike & Howl in early September. You can see already his legs have gotten long. But now, look at him! This is Rocky Pup at the play date this past weekend. Can you even believe how big he’s gotten? He’s as tall as I am. Okay, I know I’m short, but I’m no puppy. Clearly Rocky Pup is going to pass me soon. I’ll have to look up when I say, Hi Rocky Pup!

You know what, though? He is a very nice, polite, young man. You know how Siberian adolescents can be a bit, um, rude? Well that’s not Rocky Pup at all. He is playful, but also gentle and quiet. When other dogs get fussy, he just walks away and finds another playmate. It’s clear to me that Rocky Pup’s foster parents and siblings are doing are a great job raising him. All he needs now is a good family to continue guiding him to be a wonderful adult dog.
