Ben

Age: 10 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Large

Our dear Ben has lost his battle with cancer. In the last week, his health had quickly deteriorated and it was clear that he was ready. He passed quickly and peacefully, surrounded by those that love him.

Ben ~ wear your silver harness proudly, dear friend. Dance among the stars, free of pain. It was a privilege to care for you and an honor to know you. Until we meet again…. ~ 3.29.2011

To know Ben is to love him ~ Everyone falls in love with this big, goofy guy with those huge ears and oh-so-expressive eyes. Just being in the same room with Ben makes you smile. He loves everyone and isn’t shy one bit about clowning around and demanding attention.

Ben had a secret that he was trying to hide, however, when our happy guy began limping and crying in his sleep, we knew immediate medical attention was needed. It was a very sad day when consultation and x-rays confirmed our worse fears ~ ten year old Ben had an aggressive bone cancer that had consumed his front leg to the point the weight bearing bone could fracture at any time.

To ensure the limited time Ben has left with us is quality time it was decided the best course of treatment for him was to amputate his front leg. Ben has amazed us with his progress in learning to adapt to three legs ~ he has even learned how to do stairs to share his foster parents’ bed on the second floor, under close supervision of course.

Sadly, this operation will not extend Ben’s life, but it warms our heart to see him happy again and doing so well. He may only be with us for six months, it may be more, but each and every day he will be spoiled and we will enjoy his antics and embrace his love.

Missy

Age: 14 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Our dear Missy has begun her final journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In the past couple of weeks, Missy had been slowing down and it had become harder for her to get around. While her foster family did all that they could to keep her comfortable, she was clearly in pain. Surrounded by love and showered with tears, Missy passed peacefully.

Dear Missy ~ wear your silver harness proudly. Dance among the stars, free of pain. You are greatly missed and will always be held in our hearts. ~ October 13, 2011

Missy is thought to be a Siberian/Golden/Collie mix that has been part of the MaPaw family for eight months now. Actually, we aren’t sure of Missy’s exact breed make-up, we just know she is a wonderful, loving girl that needed a little help from her friends.

Missy is close to fifteen now and time has taken its toll on our sweetheart. Apparently she had a bit of a rough life in the past – her tail was previously broken in two places and her ear appears to have been injured or suffered from an untreated infection.

Missy has settled into her foster home where she feels safe and loved. As time goes by she is requiring more care and devotion. Her rear legs are starting to give out on her and she is assisted with a sling at times until she regains her confidence. She is on several daily supplements for her joints and dry skin and is prone to ear infections… Getting old is not easy, but she takes it in stride knowing she is loved.

This brave girl is more than welcome to stay in her MaPaw home ~ receiving the love and respect she deserves.

MaPaw Welcomes Chief into Our Hospice Program

Chi (Chee) is a sixteen-year-old Siberian that was turned into a crowded shelter after a lifetime of companionship and devotion. His eyes had no hope; he was filthy, matted and unable to walk from neglect. Chi had been tossed away by those who should have loved him.

Chi was welcomed in with open arms and tears in our eyes. He was placed into our Husky Hospice Program and we promised him that he would be loved and cared for. He was given a nice comfy bed, good nutritional food, supplements and plenty of TLC. His coat was matted so badly with parasites and dried urine that much of it had to be shaved away in sections. A sling was used to help him walk.

Chi is slowly improving. He now walks unassisted and isn’t shy about coming up and nuzzling for some attention. He is still extremely underweight, but the shine has returned to his eyes. Chi knows he is loved.

Our foster mom named him “Chi”, the term for universal energy or the energy that permeates everything around us. It fits him well.

Please check back for updates on Chi. He will remain with us for as long as he has quality life and will be pampered, loved and spoiled. Our Husky Hospice is a quiet side of our rescue dedicated to caring for the Siberians that cannot be adopted.

If you would like to make a donation toward Chief’s care, please do so via the Google Donate button located below Chief’s photo. We greatly appreciate your support!

Thank You Dieruff High School!!

On Tuesday, May 4th some of MaPaw’s representatives (along with their human companions) made a special visit to Dieruff High School in Allentown, PA.

Dieruff’s mascot is a Husky named Kiska. Over the years, the kids of Dieruff have done many different activities to raise money for MaPaw. This year, the kids organized a bake sale and they asked that we bring some of our furry friends to the school. Of course we said YES ~ we couldn’t wait to see the kids!!!

RJ, Kito, Mya, Papillon and Murphy were wonderful ambassadors for MaPaw. They really enjoyed visiting with the kids and all of the attention they received ~ RJ may have gotten a little too excited (he had an accident…).

We are so grateful to Dieruff for their hard work and their support of MaPaw.

Here are some photos of our visit ~ look at all those happy faces (both human and canine)…

Thank Woo Dieruff!!!

In Loving Memory ~ Kathy "Mom" Fry

To our Friend and Loved One ~ You will be missed so very much
You gave Comfort and Happiness to the Dogs and to Us ~ You were “Mom”
You are at Peace now, God Bless ~ The World is a Sadder Place without you.

Not An Angel
The young pup and the older dog lay on the shaded sweet grass watching life reunions. Sometimes a man, sometimes a woman, sometimes a whole family would approach the Rainbow Bridge, be greeted by their loving pets, and cross the bridge together.

The young pup playfully nipped at the older dog, “Look! Something wonderful is happening!” The older dog stood up and barked excitedly, “Quickly, Get over to the path.” “That’s not my owner,” whined the pup, but did as he was told.

Thousands of pets surged forward as a figure in white walked on the path toward the bridge. As the glowing figure passed, each animal bowed its head in love and respect. The figure finally approached the bridge and was met by a menagerie of joyous animals. Together, they all walked over the bridge and disappeared.

The young pup was in awe. “Was that an angel?” he whispered. “No,” said the older dog, “that person worked rescue.”

Say Hello to MaPaw’s Newest Gals (that’s right ~ GIRLS!!!)

Good evening Puppers ~

I am very excited to introduce you to MaPaw’s newest members. The best part….THEY ARE BOTH GIRLS!!!

I don’t know if you have checked out MaPaw’s site lately, but there are a lot of boy faces on our Available Dogs page. But now we have 2 new beauties…

Meet Mya ~

Mya is on the petite side, but don’t let her size fool you! She is full of energy and is always looking for a good game of chase with her Husky friends. She came to MaPaw when her owner could no longer care for her. She is settling into her foster home and is learning her manners from the other pups in her foster home. This little lady is busy making friends with everyone she meets!

Two days later, Miss Daisha joined her MaPaw foster home.

She somehow found herself at a local shelter and when they asked MaPaw for assistance, we were glad to be able to help. This little lady is a love bug and can’t wait to give sweet Husky kisses to everyone she meets!

Welcome Mya and Daisha!

Since both these gals just joined MaPaw, they are not yet on the site. But they will be soon…
