Goodbye to My Sis, Chloe…

Hello Friends ~
First, let me introduce myself. My name is Scout and I am a Husky mix of sorts ~ I am also Chloe’s brother. Chloe has been writing this blog for a couple of years now and I’m very sad to say that I must now take over the responsibility because my sis has passed away.

Chloe had been sick since August 2010 and nobody knew what exactly was ailing her. She would have good days and bad days ~ we all kept hoping she would get better. The last week she was with us had been a roller coaster for us. She had started out the week on a good note ~ gained almost 2 pounds which was badly needed and she was eating pretty well. Wednesday night and Thursday morning, it took a little more coaxing to get her to eat enough for her insulin (she had been diagnosed a diabetic in July 2010). Thursday morning, my mum took Chloe to the vet for some x-rays to make sure that nothing was going on inside. The vet didn’t really see anything to worry about and sent Chloe home with a bunch of different foods to try, but there really wasn’t any need ~ she ate 2 cups of dry food, without any coaxing. Mum was ecstatic. By 11 am the next morning, things were much different for Chloe and by 7 pm that night ~ she was gone. Chloe wouldn’t eat and couldn’t even keep water down. She was clearly suffering and she couldn’t fight anymore, so mum held her close while she went to sleep. She was gone quickly.

We miss her terribly. She was our leader and she kept us boys (me and my brother, Niko) in line and always corrected us when she thought we were wrong. She was a strong presence in our house and now there is an obvious void. She will forever be in our hearts.

Brodie

Age: 1 1/2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Brodie!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Brodie is an 18-month-old Siberian Husky that is full of life! This extremely handsome boy is a ball of energy and stays in full play mode. He definitely will benefit from being placed in an active household with other canine playmates and a family that loves to exercise. Brodie loves dog scootering and biking.

Brodie has a wonderful personality and is quickly learning basic manners. He walks like a gentleman on a leash, is crate trained and is trustworthy home alone for short periods of times (which is being expanded slowly). He is very talkative and will greet you with his “happy howl”. He can be very respectful (for a husky) and loves people and dogs.

If you are looking for a fun fellow that will keep you active and fit, Brodie could be the pup for you!

Jaivyn

Age: Approximately 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Jaivyn!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Jaivyn (jay-vin) is a great dog with a sad tale. His family left him at a boarding kennel with kisses and the promise to be back soon ~ four months later and unanswered phone calls and mail found this young Siberian still waiting to go home.

Jaivyn is approximately two years old and is a bi-eyed (one blue/one brown) boy with a wonderful personality and lots of spirit and pent up energy. We were met with “zoomies” around the yard as well as thankful kisses.

Jaivyn is good with other dogs and thrilled to have playmates. He has recently been neutered and is grudgingly staying quiet while he heals. He is being a good sport about it, although he really, really wants to play! He is settling in with his new foster family and we are enjoying getting to know him.

If you are interested in adding Jaivyn to your family and giving him a forever home, please contact us so we can tell you more about this wonderful boy.

Brenna

Age: 8 1/2 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Brenna!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Brenna is a beautiful 8.5-year-old female husky who is in the prime of her life. She is at the perfect age – calm and trustworthy in the house and loves to play and have fun.

Brenna is great with kids and other dogs, but not cats. She loves to romp with the kids and play with the other dogs and then is very happy to come back inside for quality people time with lots of cuddles and kisses. She is a very social Siberian and everyone she meets is her new best friend.

Brenna may not have always been as happy as she is now. Her family asked someone to watch her and then abandoned her. We cannot believe someone would be able to give up this wonderful, sweet girl.

If you are looking for a faithful companion that is certain to add fun to your life, Brenna may be the perfect one!

It’s Time for an Update on Ben!

Hello Puppers ~
It is hard to believe that it’s been 6 weeks since Ben had his amputation surgery. He has amazed everyone with how quickly he adapted to life with 3 legs. As you can see from the photo below, Ben still hasn’t lost his sense of humor…

Over the holidays, Ben had plenty of visitors stop by to check in on him and he greeted each one with a smile and a tail wag. Both of his previous foster Moms stopped in to see Ben. His buddy, Jeannie even stopped by to check on him. It was a holiday full of hugs, kisses and lots of love for Ben!

Love ya Ben!

Congrats to Tawney and Cyrus

Hello Puppers ~
Hope your holidays were filled with lots of good times with friends and family. While the MaPaw pups took a bit of time off to celebrate, they were very eager to get back to work and find some homes for our available dogs.

On Monday (December 27th), Tawney’s Christmas wish came true when she was adopted to her furever home. Tawney had been with her foster home since October and was patiently waiting for her very own home. She’s a really cool gal who loves everyone she meets. Her foster family was very sad to see her go, but happy to see Tawney get adopted. Congratulations to Tawney and her new family!

Cyrus decided to start off 2011 by being adopted! That’s right ~ Cyrus found his furever home and joined them today. As you may remember, Cyrus was originally adopted from MaPaw 2 years ago but came back when his family’s work schedule changed and Cyrus was spending too much time alone. While his new family and canine sibling met Cyrus before the holidays, they wanted to wait until after the holidays so that Cyrus could settle into his new home without the stress holidays and travel can bring. Congratulations to Cyrus!

Before I sign off for the evening – a couple quick notes. The preliminary tally for Katie’s Challenge shows that we received $5475 in donations plus the $5000 matching funds from Katie’s Dad for a total of $10,475. That is amazing!!! What a great way to start 2011 for the pups of MaPaw! In 2010, MaPaw brought 56 dogs into our foster homes and found homes for 49 dogs. We are looking forward to helping even more dogs in 2011!

Farm Gets Ready for Christmas

Hello Puppers ~
Can you believe that there are only 12 more days until Christmas??? Have you finished your shopping yet? Don’t forget MaPaw has lots of great things to give for the holidays this year ~ our 2011 calendar, cookbooks, t-shirts and so much more!

We’ve been busy decorating the farm for the holidays and finally Siren has found her place on the farm ~ complete with a beautiful wreath. Perfectly positioned to greet our visitors, Siren looks as regal in front of her house as she did in life (thanks to Deb!!!).

A couple of weeks ago we hosted Santa at the farm for photos with our canine friends. Unfortunately, Ben wasn’t quite feeling up to the walk to visit with Santa. Luckily, Santa was willing to make a return trip to the farm to visit with Ben and have a chat.

Ben made sure to tell Santa how happy he was to be part of such a wonderful (and big) family like MaPaw. Ben really enjoyed his visit with Santa and even tried to get in his lap a few times for some pets and a hug or two. True to his nature, Ben’s only wish for Christmas was that other homeless pups find their way to MaPaw for their well-deserved second chance at happiness. And after some pleading from the resident Huskies, Ben reluctantly also asked Santa to send some snow…

TJ

Age: 6 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations TJ!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

TJ is a sad statistic of our economic times: his family was moving and they just couldn’t take him with them. Like so many dogs, poor TJ found himself at the shelter. The shelter realized just how special this boy is and contacted us to see if we could give him a much needed second chance.

This devilishly handsome husky is a show stopper – a classic black and white, blue eyed boy. The shelter told us he was 6 years old, but don’t let his age fool you ~ he’s more like 6 months! TJ doesn’t have any plans that include lounging around the house ~ this boy wants to go go go!

Due to his high energy level, TJ would excel in an active home as a running/hiking partner or a multi-dog household where he would have canine playmates. In addition, TJ is a very affectionate boy that just craves human attention and affection, so a home that could give him a lot of human interaction would also be a plus.

If you are looking for a fun loving, active boy…TJ is definitely the boy for you!!!

Aurora

Age: Approximately 2 -3 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Aurora!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Aurora is a lady of mystery ~ it’s a mystery to us how such a sweet Siberian could find herself homeless and with our friends at the shelter. Aurora is estimated to be two to three years of age, and while we don’t know much about her past, we can tell she was well taken care of and obviously a cherished member of a family that surely must miss her. Sadly, they have not been found and we have welcomed Aurora into rescue until she finds a new family to call her own.

Aurora is a social girl and would excel in a multi-dog household. However, she really enjoys one-on-one time with her human companions so she would also do well in a single dog home where she would get lots of love and attention.

Aurora is at that perfect age ~ she is calm and reserved at home and has a ton of fun at the local dog park. If you are looking for a dog that is past the puppy stage but is still active to keep up with your pack, look no further ~ Aurora is your girl!!

Lucky

Age: 8 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Petite

Congratulations Lucky!!!

Lucky is a petite eight-year-old girl with warm brown eyes and a contagious smile who has found her world turned upside down. This little girl had a big job ~ to care for and guide her sight impaired “brother”. A victim of the economy, she and her brother were separated when the family lost their home and Lucky seems sad and confused at to what has happened.

Lucky is settling in with her foster family and starting to relax. She enjoys playing with the other dogs and also likes her own space at times ~ on a couch preferably, if allowed. Lucky demands attention and loves to talk. She has a beautiful low “woo woo” that is impossible to resist.

Please check back with us as we get to know Lucky ~ we are certainly impressed with this little girl!
