King

Age: 9 – 12 Months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations King!!!

King is a 9-12 month old Siberian that can count his lucky stars! Somehow this handsome boy sustained lacerations to his front leg and the leg became very infected and was in danger of amputation. We are very happy to report that he responded well to antibiotics and crate rest and the leg is just fine!

King is a lover ~ this boy wants nothing more than to be near you and, if possible, resting on your feet or leaning in to be even closer. He loves absolutely everyone and is a favorite with his foster siblings and other pups in the neighborhood that stop by for play-dates and mutual sniffs.

King is housebroken and crate trained. He loves walks and car rides and is a great kisser! He is now ready for a second leash on life where he will be an important part of the family and loved and cared for.

Meet Dylan and Cooper…

How do you get 2 young, timid and unsocialized pups to kick it up Husky style? Introduce them to a house full of Huskies!!!

Dylan and Cooper had been picked up as strays. We don’t know anything about their past, but we do know that these boys are definitely bonded to each other. They are young ~ approximately 6 – 9 months old. They clearly have had no socialization with humans in their short lives.

Volunteer, Dave C. picked the boys up at the shelter and brought them to the Farm. When they arrived at the Farm, it was heartbreaking how scared they were. It took us a long time to gently coax them out of the crate they had been sharing in the van. While we lead them toward the house, they walked very slowly and close to the ground. Their tails were hanging, their ears were flat and you could see them slightly trembling. We finally got them into the house and to the door that opens into the yard. When we opened the door and the boys could see fellow Huskies, their tails curled and their ears went up. Out into the yard they ran and they were soon involved in a fantastic game of chase!

We had hoped that being part of a pack would help Dylan and Cooper adjust to life in a home (which they clearly had never been in before) and it seems to be working. They are working on their housetraining, but they have learned that the best place to be in the house is on the couch. They are becoming more trusting with their caregivers, sometimes they even steal a moment to give a gentle kiss before scurrying off to play with the others. One thing is for sure ~ they are definitely loving the company of their housemates! Here they are enjoying the sun with their foster brother, Ozzie.

Check back for updates! Welcome Dylan and Cooper!!!

Buck

Age: 3 – 4 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Buck!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Buck is a handsome Husky that will quickly steal your heart with his contagious smile and warm brown eyes. He is estimated to be three to four years old ~ young enough for plenty of exercise and good times and old enough to leave the puppy issues behind.

Buck somehow lost his family and was being cared for at the shelter before coming into rescue. He has quickly become a favorite with his foster home and volunteers. He is relatively calm (husky-style) and gets along great with people and other dogs.

Buck is one of our newer guests and we are thoroughly enjoying getting to know him. This Siberian is going to be a wonderful pal and companion for someone looking for a new friend. If you think Buck might be the one for you, please feel free to contact us ~ we would love to tell you more about him.

Godspeed Ben…

Hello Puppers ~
MaPaw has lost another beloved member of our family. Yesterday morning, Ben lost his battle with cancer.

Ben had been with MaPaw just over 2 years, the last 4 months he had been in our Hospice program. In November of last year, Ben had one of his front legs amputated after being diagnosed with an aggressive bone cancer. The tumor had eaten away much of the weight bearing bone in that leg and amputation was the only option. While we knew that amputating his leg would not increase the amount of time we had left with Ben, we knew it would give him quality of life for whatever time he had left.

He had adjusted quickly to life with 3 legs. He loved greeting Farm visitors and became quite vocal about his attention demands. His goofy smile could bring a smile to anyone’s face. Simply to know Ben is to love him.

In the last week, his health quickly went downhill. Soon he could no longer stand on his own and when he was helped up he would cry in pain. Although it broke our hearts, we knew that it was time to help Ben begin his final journey.

A “picnic” was planned for yesterday morning. Ben had a cheesesteak, which he happily ate between hugs, kisses and loving words. Surrounded by love, Ben took his last breath.

Ben was a gentle soul who made many friends during his stay with MaPaw. He is greatly missed by many and will be in our hearts forever.

Ben ~ wear your silver harness proudly, dear friend. Dance among the stars, free of pain. It was a privilege to care for you and an honor to know you. Until we meet again….

Coda Update

Hello Puppers ~
After almost 2 weeks at Metropolitan Veterinary Hospital, Coda finally arrived back at the Farm for his recovery.

He is on ordered crate rest for most of the day. However, he is allowed a few short walks around the yard on leash, which he looks forward to. His favorite time of day? Couch time with his housemates! Here he is chilling out with Sage and Sabrina.

It is certainly an interesting task keeping this young man calm and quiet while he’s in his crate…

He’s doing well and we think his recovery is right on track. He is scheduled to visit the Doc soon for x-rays to make sure everything is healing as it should be. Check back soon for updates!

Dobbin

Age: 9 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Dobbin!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Dobbin is a handsome, nine year old Siberian male with baby blue eyes and a constant smile. He is a docile boy (for a husky) and loves to go for walks and play with squeaky toys and then he is happy to sack out on the couch and just be with the ones he loves.

Dobbin has been part of his current family for eight years. Unfortunately, one of Dobbin’s family members has developed severe allergies and they must find another family for Dobbin to love.

Dobbin is a wonderful companion ~ he is housebroken, crate trained and trustworthy in the house. He is a brave boy, but is afraid of thunderstorms and fireworks. He is a lovable guy and just wants to be near his family.

If you are looking for someone to share walks with and then couch time with a good book or movie, Dobbin may be the perfect guy for you!

Kita

Age: 13 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Our dear Kita has begun her final journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. Yesterday, she was having great difficulty in getting up and walking. It was clear to her heartbroken foster Mum that Kita was in a lot of pain. Kita passed peacefully surrounded by love.

Dearest Kita ~ we only had the pleasure of knowing you for a short while, but you left a lasting impression on our hearts. Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars. ~ September 6, 2011

Kita is a senior Siberian we have been watching over for a while. Her mom had to have a heart/lung transplant and could no longer care for her loved, lifetime fur-friend. We lost touch with Kita for a while when a family friend took her in and then took her to the local shelter and she was again adopted and returned…

When we found out this devoted girl was again at the shelter we did not hesitate to bring her in immediately. We are so happy we did, she is a sweetheart that is confused and depressed. We are giving her lots of TLC and extra kisses and hugs to let her know everything is OK.

Kita is approximately 13 years old and is a quiet, loving girl. She would be perfect for an older couple or person wanting a faithful companion that is low energy and doesn’t require a lot of exercise. She would probably do best as an only dog. If you are looking for someone to share the golden years with or just a laidback friend, please ask us more about Kita!

Do you have questions about Kita? Send her foster family an email.

Kosmo

Age: 1 – 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Kosmo!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Kosmo is a “classic” black and white husky with piercing blue eyes that is estimated to be one to two years old. He just recently joined his MaPaw foster home and we are still getting to know him.

Kosmo had been found as a stray and taken to the shelter. There he sat patiently waiting for his family to come and take him back home. Unfortunately for him, they never came. Fortunately for us, we now have the opportunity to help him find his forever home.

We are helping this young pup learn his manners while he readies to find his forever home. We can tell you that he is an active boy (as typical young Huskies are) and loves to play! He is getting on with the pups in his foster home and has made friends at the dog park.

We are learning more about Kosmo each day. Check back soon for updates!

Meet Coda

Hello Puppers ~
I’d like to introduce you to Coda. He is a very handsome (that’s what my Mum said) 1 1/2 year old Sibe that really needed MaPaw’s help. First, here’s a photo of him:

Okay ~ so here is Coda’s story. On Wednesday night, MaPaw was contacted about a pup that had escaped his yard and had been shot by a farmer who thought he was a coyote. His femur had been shattered and his family was devastated that they couldn’t afford the surgery he needed to save his life. This boy was way out of MaPaw’s area, but we knew that we were his only chance. We agreed to bring him to MaPaw and arrange the necessary veterinary care.

Early Thursday morning, we put out a plea to our volunteers with transport assistance. In no time, we had the transport ready to go. Have I mentioned we have the best volunteers EVER?!!! Coda’s owners offered to drive him as far as they could. They met up with Deb M. who took him to meet Dave and Karen C. who would be taking him to the Farm. Through the entire trip, Coda had kisses for everyone he met.

Bright and early Friday morning, Coda was loaded into the car and off he went to the vet for a thorough examination and x-rays. Dr. Ross (Schwenksville Vet) had a feeling that a specialist he knew might be able to mend the leg rather than amputate. After a phone consult, Coda was whisked off to Metropolitan Vet for a closer look at his x-rays. After a thorough discussion, we thought it might be in Coda’s best interest to amputate his leg. We were so hopeful that we would be able to save his leg. After more discussions with the specialist, he really felt that the surgery would be successful. We decided to have the surgery to mend his leg.

On Friday afternoon, he had the surgery done and we were on pins and needles waiting for word on how the surgery went. Finally the call we had waited for ~ everything went well and Coda was recovering nicely. The next morning brought more good news ~ Coda had slept through the night, had some breakfast and was doing wonderfully.

Metropolitan Vet has offered for Coda to stay with them for the next couple of weeks where he will be monitored 24/7 and kept quiet so he can heal. Once he is released from Metropolitan, he will return to the Farm where he will finish his recovery.

The total cost of Coda’s surgery has been capped at $4300. His stay with Metropolitan will be done as a courtesy. Any donations toward Coda’s care will be greatly appreciated and humbly accepted. If you would like to donate to Coda’s care, you can do so below or you can donate directly to Metropolitan Vet by calling 610.666.1050 and tell them it’s for MaPaw Siberian Husky Rescue.

$

We are so grateful that we have the opportunity to help Coda. He is an amazing pup that will make a great companion for a very lucky family when he is finally ready to begin his forever home search. We know that his family is heartbroken that they had to let him go, but they know that they did the best thing they could do for Coda. We will take wonderful care of him while he is with us and we are excited for the future he has to look forward to!

Welcome to MaPaw, Coda!

One Pup Finds a Home, Another Finds the Farm

Hello Puppers ~

On Tuesday, Kita made her way to the MaPaw Farm. Kita is a 13 year old beauty with a gentle face and loving eyes.

We had originally been contacted about her situation in August, but were ecstatic when we found out someone she knew was going to care for her. Sadly a few short months later, we again were contacted because Kita had found herself at the shelter when that person could no longer care for her. Tentative arrangements had been made when we were contacted by the shelter and told that someone had adopted Kita. We were so happy for Kita. Unfortunately, just a short time later, she was back to the shelter.

When we were contacted by the shelter, we immediately made arrangements to get her to the Farm. We weren’t taking any chances that Kita would ever find herself at the shelter again!

If left too long, she does have accidents which is why she was brought back to the shelter the last time. So she would need to go to a home where she wouldn’t be left for too long. She is not quite used to all of the Husky activity of the Farm, but she is finding her space and slowly warming up to her roommates. She really is a lovely pup and we are happy that we could help her during her “golden” years. Welcome Kita!

Now ~ who was the lucky pup that found their home???

Victoria!!! She really is a love and has been a well-mannered pup at her foster home. When she met her new family, she charmed them right away. Look how happy they all are….

I have a feeling that Victoria (or Vicky as she prefers to be called) is going to be one spoiled pup! Congratulations Vicky!!!
