Another Lucky Pup Finds Her Forever Home!

Good evening Puppers ~
When Trudi first joined MaPaw, she was an unbelievable 107 pounds! This poor gal could hardly move and she just seemed so uncomfortable. A visit to the vet and blood work confirmed that Trudi was hypothyroid.

With the help of medication and a strict diet, Trudi soon started shedding the pounds (along with some Husky hair, of course). She was clearly feeling better and soon her true personality started to shine through. She was finally able to play along with her canine housemates.

After suffering the loss of their Husky, a friend of MaPaw contacted us to find a companion for their Husky who was mourning the loss of his sibeling. Trudi had waited patiently for months to find the perfect home. Finally… a perfect match! She has Max to play and run with, Goldie to relax and nap with and humans to spoil her! We know that Trudi will be well taken care of and loved.

We look forward to many updates and photos…

Congratulations Trudi!!!

Trudi joined her forever home on March 24, 2012.

Two Lucky Pups Find Their Forever Homes!

Good evening Puppers ~
After 1 year and 4 months, our Ozzie has finally found his forever home!

When Ozzie joined MaPaw, he was a typical young Husky ~ full of energy and definitely full of himself… He soon found comfort in his routine and matured a bit. Have you ever seen a Husky jump onto the kitchen counter with hardly any effort ~ like a cat? That’s Ozzie!

Ozzie has found the perfect home with humans that will love him and a sibeling to spend his time with! Congratulations to Ozzie and his family!

Ozzie joined his forever home on March 9th.

Our second lucky pup is Zelda. She found her way to MaPaw after she lost her family. When she first joined us, she seemed sad like she was missing something. She soon warmed up to her foster home and her true personality began to show through. She became a wonderful companion to her humans and her canine housemates.

Zelda may have lost her first family, but she has now found the perfect family to share the rest of her life with. Even better ~ she has a sibeling, sister Tasha! Congratulations to Zelda and her family!

Zelda joined her forever home on March 11th.

We are so happy for Ozzie and Zelda and their families! We look forward to many photos and updates…

Did you notice that both MaPaw pups (black & white) were adopted to families with red & white sibelings? Hmmm….

Beef & Beer Huge Success

Hello Puppers ~
On Saturday March 10th, MaPaw took over one of the banquet halls at the Gilbertsville Fire Company No. 1 (Gilbertsville, PA) for our Beef & Beer fundraiser. We had a blast and the night was a great success.

We had a silent auction that included a handmade Wolf quilt (donated by MaPaw member, Denise S.), a painting of MaPaw pup Kiernan (donated by MaPaw member, Kathryn), an 11″ x 14″ hand drawn portrait of the lucky winner’s companion (donated by Obskured Canvas) and an incredible vacation package for Cape May.

Over 40 raffle baskets were donated and included treats and toys for pups, games and toys for children, gardening items, Reading Phillies tickets, candles and more.

Some of our volunteers were busy bakers and supplied plenty of delicious treats for our bake sale.

We had an amazing night chatting with old friends and making new friends. We were overwhelmed by all of the support from our friends and community. The best part ~ we raised much needed funds to go toward the care of our pups!

Rehnquist

Age: 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Rehnquist!!!

Rehnquist is a very handsome 2 year old male Siberian that is sure to make you smile! His family had a new baby who developed allergies to Rehnquist and, unfortunately, Rehnquist has to find another home.

Rehnquist is good with kids and other dogs. He is housebroken and crate trained and is medium energy. He loves car rides and walks ~ he walks twice a day and is good on the leash. Of course, being a Siberian, Rehnquist loves to run and he must be inside, in a secure fenced area or on leash at all times.

He is a smart boy ~ he knows “sit”, “shake”, “crawl” and “touch” (he touches your closed hand for the hidden treats). He loves to play tug of war and will bring his toy to you with an invitation to play.

Rehnquist is an all-around great dog with a terrific personality. He would love to have a canine companion to play with and a family he can love.

Bear

Age: Approximately 10 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Bear!!!

Bear is a stunning long-hair (wooly) husky who has a very sad story. His owner lost his home and abandoned Bear in the house. Concerned people contacted the authorities and they rescued Bear. Bear has been released to MaPaw and we are really enjoying this guy!

Bear is approximately ten years, though he seems much younger. He loves to play with the other dogs and gets along with everyone. After a good play session, Bear is content to relax near you. He loves to sleep at your feet and quietly snore. He does like to be close to people, no doubt from being left alone in an empty house.

Bear’s perfect home would be someone that can re-assure him in the beginning until he settles in and realizes he won’t be abandoned again. Another dog would be best to show Bear the ropes and to play with him. When put in a new environment, Bear will bark and fuss a bit if put in a crate.

This boy has had hard times and needs a new home with lots of TLC! Bear made instant friends with all of us at MaPaw and we see what a wonderful dog he is ~ he just needs to know that he is loved again.

Update on Luke

Hello Puppers ~
I thought I would pop in and give you a quick update about Luke.

Luke went to the doctor last week for his follow up visit. The chest x-rays showed that his lungs are clearing and are looking good. He still has an occasional cough, so the doctor recommended keeping him on the antibiotics for another 2 weeks. Our Luke even gained 5 pounds since his last visit!

Next on Luke’s journey will be the Panacur for the whipworms. With Luke’s original diagnosis, the doctor thought it best to treat the pneumonia first without overloading his system with medications.

Once Luke is medically cleared, this young pup will be ready to begin the search for his forever home!

MaPaw Gets Our Official Sign

Hello Puppers ~
Have we ever told you how much we enjoy being a part of the community in Douglass Township?

A little while ago, we were contacted by Dan Harris who is an Eagle Scout with Troop 523. For his project, Dan wanted to create and construct a sign for the MaPaw Farm. While it was Dan’s concept, there were many in the community that came forward to donate their time, talent and materials to the project.

On Saturday, February 25th, Dan and some of the other Scouts came to the Farm to erect the sign. Since it is a Husky Farm, it only seemed fitting that there would be snow falling and a little bit of wind. We chose the perfect spot for the sign by the doghouse and Siren statue.

The sign is AMAZING!!!

We would like to thank Dan, Scout Troop #523, their families, Dave Levengood of Global Advanced Metals, USA, Inc. for CAD design work, A.D. Moyer Lumber for donating the materials, Troy and Kim Brown of Brown Construction for project construction and consulting and Mike and Annmarie Burkhart for the sign graphics.

It is an absolute pleasure to be a part of this community. The Huskies are proud to call Douglass Township, Berks County their home!

Luke

Age: 1 – 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Luke!!!

On January 19th, Luke and his sibeling Dora made their way to MaPaw foster homes. We had originally been contacted by the shelter where they were residing because both pups were quite shy and the shelter felt rescue would be their best chance. We were making arrangements to bring the pair into rescue when we got the call we were dreading ~ the shelter had an emergency and needed Dora and Luke out immediately. Our volunteers sprung into action and soon were on their way to pick up the pair.

When our volunteers picked them up, it was clear that Luke was quite ill and he was taken for immediate vet care. Our worst fears were realized when his breathing became labored. He was rushed to emergency care and admitted immediately. Chest x-rays revealed that our poor boy suffered from pneumonia. IV fluids and several antibiotic injectables were administered. Finally the update from the hospital was good news. Luke no longer had a fever, no longer had difficulty breathing and the best news ~ he could return to his foster home! His appetite has returned and he is now resting comfortably at his foster home.

Luke is being spoiled in his foster home and his subsequent chest x-ray was clear. He will continue with his recovery and once he receives a clean bill of health, he will be ready to go to a forever home.

So sadly, our Dora left us far too soon. We are so very grateful for the short time we had with her and that she knew love and that people cared for her before she left us so quickly.

Any donations and contributions toward Luke’s medical bills are gratefully appreciated.

Rex

Age: 7 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Rex!!!

Rex is a seven year old grey and white husky with bright blue eyes. Sadly his family was forced to move and could not take Rex so they secured him in the back yard and went over daily to feed him. Poor Rex was very lonely.

Rex began his life as an indoor pet and enjoyed being part of the family. He is trustworthy in the house and housebroken. He is an extremely happy and affectionate boy that just wants to love and be loved. Rex is a joy to be around.

Rex’s dream home would be one where he can hang out and receive a lot of attention. He is good with other dogs his size or larger and enjoys a good romp and game of chase as long as he can relax and love his humans inside where he belongs.

If you are looking for a happy go lucky friend to be by your side, please ask us about this great dog.

Caspian

Age: 7 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Caspian!!!

Caspian is a seven year old handsome Siberian whose life came crashing down when his family lost their home and Caspian lost the life he had always known. The family placed Caspian in the hands of our friends at the shelter. He came to us uncomfortable with affectionate handling, but has learned to love to be loved and petted.

Caspian has big, soulful brown eyes and he loves people once he trusts them. He gives so many kisses and loves to be petted and now even accepts gentle hugs happily. He loves car rides and walks (although he will pull a bit, typical of the breed). He can be a drama queen and has plenty to say. This boy does love to talk! He is on the calm side and enjoys sleeping in his foster boy’s room on the spare bed. He is crate trained and housebroken.

Caspian adores being with people and thoroughly enjoys spending time with them, however, he prefers to keep his humans to himself. Caspian can be aggressive toward other dogs and will snap at dogs he feels are a threat, even with people present. For this reason, he will only be placed in a dog experienced home with no young children where he will be the only companion animal.

Caspian is a happy boy once again with one more wish ~ his own home and family to love.
