Rest in Peace

June 25, 2013 – Today, under a shade tree at the farm, Jack, Pat and I had a quiet
going away party. Jack enjoyed meatballs and part of a cheeseburger, as he lifted his frail head towards the breeze. It was the first time he had eaten anything substantial for 3 days and he could no longer walk. He began his final journey, circled with love.
Jack ~ wear your silver harness with pride ~ you no longer have limitations or pain and you are whole again. God Speed sweet boy,
candles are lit for your dance among the stars to the Bridge. Go swiftly, you have a special super moon to guide your way.

Jack is a MaPaw alum that sadly found his way back to rescue after two years. We are lucky to have him back and he is lucky to be with us. For reasons we will never understand, his family chose not to let us know that they could no longer keep him and, instead, they abandoned him at a local shelter. Fortunately, the shelter found out he was a MaPaw dog and immediate arrangements were made to bring Jack back to MaPaw.

When Jack arrived at the farm, we greeted him with gentle hugs and tears. He was obviously very sick and in pain. His hind end is very weak and arthritic. All testing and blood work points towards cancer. After discussions with the vet and taking into account Jack’s physical condition, it is agreed that we will let our big boy continue to enjoy his life and not subject him to invasive procedures and/or surgery.

Jack has been with us for six months now and has settled into his own routine ~ a little exploring and mingling with some of the other pups and then back to his warm bed in the office. Please send good thoughts and “sibe vibes” for Jack. He is a happy boy that is being pampered and loved here with his friends.

In Memory of Triska

Our dear Triska has begun her journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. Sadly, she was no longer able to get up on her own and was clearly uncomfortable and distressed. She passed peacefully surrounded by love and showered by tears.

Dearest Triska ~ Wear your silver harness proudly dear friend. You can run once again free of the pain that held you back. You are greatly missed. We mourn your passing, but celebrate the time we were lucky enough to spend with you. It’s not goodbye dearest friend, simply until we meet again. ~ 6/15/2012

In Memory of Radar

Our dear Radar has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. On February 29th, he underwent emergency surgery. He was not recovering as quickly as the doctor had hoped and remained lethargic. Sadly 2 days later, Radar closed his eyes and left this earth.

Dearest Radar ~ You were a funny, gentle soul with a wonderful personality. You brought joy to any room you entered and we only wish we would have had more time to spend with you. Wear your silver harness proudly dear friend. While you were only with us for a short time, you will be in our hearts forever. ~ March 2, 2012

In Memory of Falcor

falcor7

Our dear Falcor has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. When he joined MaPaw, he was a scared little guy who lacked confidence. His foster Mum worked with him and they soon formed an amazingly strong bond. We soon realized that Falcor was already home and he became a permanent resident of MaPaw. Falcor’s passing was unexpected.

Dearest Falcor ~ Wear your silver harness with great pride as you dance among the stars, dear friend. Know you are greatly loved and horribly missed. Until we meet again… ~ August 16, 2012

In Memory of Boston

Our dear Boston has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. True to his strong character, he never let us know he was sick until it was too late. In the arms of his family, Boston laid quietly and closed his eyes one last time. He was surrounded by love and showered by many, many tears.

Dearest Boston ~ Wear your silver harness with great pride as you dance among the stars. You were such a strong presence and your absence is devastating. You will forever be in our hearts, dear friend. Never goodbye, only until we meet again… ~ 11/19/2012

Our dear Beau has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In recent days, he was having difficulty getting around and was clearly uncomfortable. He passed surrounded by love.

Dearest Beau ~ Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars free of the pain that held you back. We are grateful for the time we had with you and honored to have had the opportunity to care for you. You are horribly missed and your absence has left a void. ~ 10/10/2012

In Memory of Thunder

Thunder is a handsome 2 – 3 year old Siberian with shiny bright blue eyes and a tail that wags constantly. He somehow lost his way and found himself being cared for by our friends at the shelter.

The staff witnessed Thunder having a seizure and knowing that the shelter was not the best environment for him, they contacted MaPaw. Thunder touched our hearts as soon as we met him and we were happy to bring him into rescue to give him the help he needed. He did have several other seizures and a trip to the vet ruled out a lot of serious possibilities. He was placed on phenobarbital, an effective and inexpensive medicine given twice a day.

We are watching Thunder closely and are very optimistic that this sweet guy will stabilize on his medications. Many epileptic dogs lead completely normal lives and the seizures are under control once the medicine is completely in their system, usually 2 – 4 weeks.

Thunder is a wonderful Sibe and we are so happy to be here for our bright eye boy.

In Memory of Schatzi

schatziIt is with a very heavy heart and through many tears that we share the passing of MaPaw pup, Schatzi.

Schatzi joined MaPaw 2 years ago after being found on the side of the road by 2 of our volunteers. This beautiful girl was horribly thin ~ you could clearly see every bone in her body. With lots of TLC, Schatzi was soon gaining weight and her wonderful personality started to shine.

On Saturday, she had a seizure and became paralyzed in her hind end. She was taken immediately to emergency. After x-rays and blood work showed no specific cause, the doctors were leaning toward a neurological issue. We agreed to leave her overnight for medications and observation. On Sunday morning, there was still no improvement and she was clearly in pain. Although it broke our hearts, we decided it was time to help Schatzi begin her journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In the arms of those that loved her most, Schatzi closed her eyes and passed peacefully.

Dearest Schatzi ~ You were our beloved Shepherd with a Husky heart. We are honored to have had the privilege of caring for you and sharing our lives with you for the past 2 years. Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars, free of pain. You will forever be in our hearts. Until we meet again, dear friend…

Schatzi is German for “my love” and it is the perfect name for this shy and sweet 11 year old German Shepherd Dog who has been a tragic victim of abuse.

Schatzi was brought in with every bone showing on her frail body. She obviously had seen very hard times and yet when she met us her eyes begged for love and her tail wagged hopefully ~ she immediately captured our hearts. She was given immediate vet care, a warm bed, good food and plenty of TLC.

Schatzi has gained much needed weight and her coat has turned a glossy black. She is an affectionate girl who alerts you to anyone coming to visit. She is laid back and enjoys napping in the sun or inside nearby whoever is home. She is housebroken and trustworthy in the house. Schatzi would be content to be an only dog or a companion with another dog that matches her energy level.

In Memory of Sage

sage-medium

Sage was originally adopted from MaPaw ten years ago as a year old spunky pup with her whole life in front of her. After being a devoted member of her changing family for the last ten years, she found herself in need of our assistance again.

At 11 years old, Sage would be a bit more difficult to adopt. It wouldn’t be impossible, but she had some medical issues we needed to tend to before she could begin her search. Sage had two large tumors removed from her nose and near her eye. Thankfully, both were determined to be benign. She was also diagnosed with a urinary tract infection, which she was promptly treated for. Her foster family worked with her for incontinence and housebreaking.

During further medical testing, it was discovered that Sage has T-cell Leukemia. Sadly, her prognosis is not great. Without treatment, she would only be with us for two more months. With treatment, we would be able to enjoy her for another year. After being assured that Sage would face minimal side effects from treatment, we chose to start her treatment with the understanding that if she didn’t tolerate it well, it would be discontinued and we would cherish the time we had left with her.

Nov 24, 2013- It is with a very heavy heart that I share the sad news that Sage has
crossed to the Rainbow Bridge. She left this earth peacefully,
surrounded by love.

We adopted 10 month old Sage in September of 2001. Due to life
changes, our sweetie was returned to us September 2012 and was not in
good health.

On Friday she refused to eat, was vomiting and diarrhea and consult
with her vet confirmed it would be a blessing to stop her suffering
and let her go.

God Speed sweet Sage, travel quickly among the stars in your shiny silver harness you so earned. Others are waiting to greet you. Until we meet again…
