It’s Time for an Update on Ben!

Hello Puppers ~
It is hard to believe that it’s been 6 weeks since Ben had his amputation surgery. He has amazed everyone with how quickly he adapted to life with 3 legs. As you can see from the photo below, Ben still hasn’t lost his sense of humor…

Over the holidays, Ben had plenty of visitors stop by to check in on him and he greeted each one with a smile and a tail wag. Both of his previous foster Moms stopped in to see Ben. His buddy, Jeannie even stopped by to check on him. It was a holiday full of hugs, kisses and lots of love for Ben!

Love ya Ben!

Congrats to Tawney and Cyrus

Hello Puppers ~
Hope your holidays were filled with lots of good times with friends and family. While the MaPaw pups took a bit of time off to celebrate, they were very eager to get back to work and find some homes for our available dogs.

On Monday (December 27th), Tawney’s Christmas wish came true when she was adopted to her furever home. Tawney had been with her foster home since October and was patiently waiting for her very own home. She’s a really cool gal who loves everyone she meets. Her foster family was very sad to see her go, but happy to see Tawney get adopted. Congratulations to Tawney and her new family!

Cyrus decided to start off 2011 by being adopted! That’s right ~ Cyrus found his furever home and joined them today. As you may remember, Cyrus was originally adopted from MaPaw 2 years ago but came back when his family’s work schedule changed and Cyrus was spending too much time alone. While his new family and canine sibling met Cyrus before the holidays, they wanted to wait until after the holidays so that Cyrus could settle into his new home without the stress holidays and travel can bring. Congratulations to Cyrus!

Before I sign off for the evening – a couple quick notes. The preliminary tally for Katie’s Challenge shows that we received $5475 in donations plus the $5000 matching funds from Katie’s Dad for a total of $10,475. That is amazing!!! What a great way to start 2011 for the pups of MaPaw! In 2010, MaPaw brought 56 dogs into our foster homes and found homes for 49 dogs. We are looking forward to helping even more dogs in 2011!

Farm Gets Ready for Christmas

Hello Puppers ~
Can you believe that there are only 12 more days until Christmas??? Have you finished your shopping yet? Don’t forget MaPaw has lots of great things to give for the holidays this year ~ our 2011 calendar, cookbooks, t-shirts and so much more!

We’ve been busy decorating the farm for the holidays and finally Siren has found her place on the farm ~ complete with a beautiful wreath. Perfectly positioned to greet our visitors, Siren looks as regal in front of her house as she did in life (thanks to Deb!!!).

A couple of weeks ago we hosted Santa at the farm for photos with our canine friends. Unfortunately, Ben wasn’t quite feeling up to the walk to visit with Santa. Luckily, Santa was willing to make a return trip to the farm to visit with Ben and have a chat.

Ben made sure to tell Santa how happy he was to be part of such a wonderful (and big) family like MaPaw. Ben really enjoyed his visit with Santa and even tried to get in his lap a few times for some pets and a hug or two. True to his nature, Ben’s only wish for Christmas was that other homeless pups find their way to MaPaw for their well-deserved second chance at happiness. And after some pleading from the resident Huskies, Ben reluctantly also asked Santa to send some snow…

TJ

Age: 6 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations TJ!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

TJ is a sad statistic of our economic times: his family was moving and they just couldn’t take him with them. Like so many dogs, poor TJ found himself at the shelter. The shelter realized just how special this boy is and contacted us to see if we could give him a much needed second chance.

This devilishly handsome husky is a show stopper – a classic black and white, blue eyed boy. The shelter told us he was 6 years old, but don’t let his age fool you ~ he’s more like 6 months! TJ doesn’t have any plans that include lounging around the house ~ this boy wants to go go go!

Due to his high energy level, TJ would excel in an active home as a running/hiking partner or a multi-dog household where he would have canine playmates. In addition, TJ is a very affectionate boy that just craves human attention and affection, so a home that could give him a lot of human interaction would also be a plus.

If you are looking for a fun loving, active boy…TJ is definitely the boy for you!!!

Aurora

Age: Approximately 2 -3 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Aurora!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Aurora is a lady of mystery ~ it’s a mystery to us how such a sweet Siberian could find herself homeless and with our friends at the shelter. Aurora is estimated to be two to three years of age, and while we don’t know much about her past, we can tell she was well taken care of and obviously a cherished member of a family that surely must miss her. Sadly, they have not been found and we have welcomed Aurora into rescue until she finds a new family to call her own.

Aurora is a social girl and would excel in a multi-dog household. However, she really enjoys one-on-one time with her human companions so she would also do well in a single dog home where she would get lots of love and attention.

Aurora is at that perfect age ~ she is calm and reserved at home and has a ton of fun at the local dog park. If you are looking for a dog that is past the puppy stage but is still active to keep up with your pack, look no further ~ Aurora is your girl!!

Lucky

Age: 8 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Petite

Congratulations Lucky!!!

Lucky is a petite eight-year-old girl with warm brown eyes and a contagious smile who has found her world turned upside down. This little girl had a big job ~ to care for and guide her sight impaired “brother”. A victim of the economy, she and her brother were separated when the family lost their home and Lucky seems sad and confused at to what has happened.

Lucky is settling in with her foster family and starting to relax. She enjoys playing with the other dogs and also likes her own space at times ~ on a couch preferably, if allowed. Lucky demands attention and loves to talk. She has a beautiful low “woo woo” that is impossible to resist.

Please check back with us as we get to know Lucky ~ we are certainly impressed with this little girl!

Beau

Age: Approximately 9 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Our dear Beau has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In recent days, he was having difficulty getting around and was clearly uncomfortable. He passed surrounded by love. Dearest Beau ~ Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars free of the pain that held you back. We are grateful for the time we had with you and honored to have had the opportunity to care for you. You are horribly missed and your absence has left a void. ~ 10.10.2012

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

At first glance you feel so sorry for Beau ~ he walks with some difficulty and shaking, but once you get to know this happy, affectionate boy you realize how precious he is and that he truly has quality life.

Beau is a senior at approximately nine years old who came in with a raging ear infection and obvious issues to his spine and/or rear legs. Immediate vet counsel, testing and x-rays indicate that at some time in his earlier life Beau suffered a traumatic spinal injury. Our first reaction was to feel sorry for Beau ~ until we got to know this magnificent dog. He may look shaky, but his will is strong. Beau is happy to be alive ~ and we are happy too.

Beau is settling in with his foster family and making friends. He is happiest when he can crawl into a lap and settle in. Beau is a welcome addition to the MaPaw family and will be a permanent resident with us due to his physical limitations ~ but don’t tell Beau that, he is happy and spoiled!

UPDATE APRIL 2012
Beau continues to do well and enjoys the company of the other dogs in his foster home. He loves to cuddle, go for short walks and just hang out with the family. He continues to be a happy boy and we couldn’t ask for anything more.

Update on Ben

Good evening Puppers –
Over the weekend, I got to visit Ben and see for myself just how well he is doing. He is amazing!!! It has been almost 3 weeks since Ben’s surgery and he’s already managed to find his way upstairs to share his foster parents’ bed!

He loves his coat (thanks Diane!), which keeps him warm in this chilly husky weather. While he is a husky/shepherd mix, he doesn’t seem to possess the husky love of cold and snow. In fact, he knows exactly where all of the heat registers are in the house and isn’t shy about blocking everyone else out while he hogs all the warm air for himself.

Ben is back to being the happy pup we brought into MaPaw 2 years ago. He loves the company of anyone that stops by to visit and is quite vocal about his need for pets and hugs. And he really enjoys the company of the other pups in his pack. Here’s a photo of Callie stopping in to check on Ben after his nap.

Way to go Ben!!!

Santa Paws was Great Fun!

Hello Puppers ~
We had so much fun this weekend with the Santa Paws photos! It was a little cold for the humans, but perfect weather for the huskies!

Here’s R.J. posing with Santa ~ check out that big husky smile…

Thanks to our “Santas” Pat and Chris ~ they did a wonderful job of keeping our canine visitors focused and all the photos turned out great. Thanks to all our volunteers for their help throughout the weekend.

We had a lot of fun catching up with some of our MaPaw alums. Everyone looked great and proved that MaPaw really does have an awesome extended family!

We’re looking forward to Santa Paws for next year! Hopefully it will be a little warmer for the humans…

Juno

Age: 5 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Juno!!!

Juno is a handsome five-year-old black and white Siberian with baby blue eyes who loves to walk and run with people (on leash of course) and just be part of the family. He loves tug of war and chasing balls. Juno is smart ~ he knows sit, rollover and paw. He is a friendly boy and does jump up as a friendly gesture if allowed. For this reason, we recommend a home with children eight years and older.

Juno was a happy part of a family of four, which over time became a one-person home. Juno missed the household activity and his remaining person had to travel frequently so he spent much of his time in kennels resulting in anxiety.

Juno is looking for a home where he can be part of the family and enjoy everyone. He has an excellent temperament and is friendly with people and other dogs. He has a moderate energy level, although he lives up to the husky name and is a counter-surfer and will escape if allowed the opportunity.

Juno’s human loves him very much, but he knows it is in Juno’s best interest to belong to a household that will give him the time and attention this social boy thrives on. If you have an opening for a fantastic companion and friend, please ask for more information about this wonderful Siberian.
