Ziggy

Age: 1 – 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Ziggy!!!

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Ziggy is a red and white male husky estimated to be 1 – 2 years old with an incredible personality. He is sweet and loves to give kisses and actually listens well for a husky ~ he loves everyone.

Ziggy and his friend, Steele, found themselves at the shelter when their family abandoned their home ~ and their trusting dogs. Both pups were left on the street where our friends at the shelter found them and brought them into safety.

Ziggy is very trusting and loves to please. He is great with other dogs and he loves to swim! He is not bonded to his “brother” Steele and they are in separate foster homes at this time. However, if you are looking for a pair, we are sure the boys would love a happy reunion (two huskies are easier than one since they keep each other company…)!

If you want a new best friend, please consider Ziggy – he is going to make someone a wonderful companion.

Neiko

Age: 11 Months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Neiko!!!

Neiko is a young 11 month old Siberian sweetheart who has been through the wringer! Neiko is a happy boy, but has some apparent digestive issues that have gone unresolved so far. We have welcomed this young pup into rescue and are working hard to rule out any food allergies, etc. and get Neiko back on the right track with a good food that will be agreeable to him.

Neiko is otherwise a healthy, happy puppy that loves people and loves to play with other dogs. He has quickly settled in at his foster home and is making many new friends. He is crate trained, trustworthy in the house and is well behaved for his young age. He will do best in a home with another canine playmate and fenced yard to romp in.

Please stay tuned for updates on this little guy ~ he is not available for adoption at this time until we can target any issues! He is a wonderful, happy puppy and we are so happy to help him!!

MaPaw Update

Hello puppers ~
I know in my last post I said I was going to try to be better about posting more often. Clearly, that hasn’t worked out as I had hoped. In my defense, it is summer and I’ve been busy sunning myself in the yard. I also have a little brother who is a lot of work. He constantly needs to be entertained and sometimes I swear it’s a full time job! Of course, I’ve also made some time for vacation. It’s very stressful being me and I just need to get away to relax for a bit before making my way back to the “real world”.

I can’t believe that I haven’t posted since July 15th! So much has happened since then. We’ve had quite a few additions to the MaPaw family since then. Let’s see ~ where to begin…

We had been working with Neiko’s owners for a little while trying to help them find a solution for his digestive issues. Unfortunately, they couldn’t afford the extensive tests their vet was suggesting and they felt that it wasn’t fair to Neiko. We’ve welcomed him into MaPaw and are now working to get Neiko on the right track. He loves to play with the other pups in his foster home and adores people. He has a stunning mask and an outstanding personality to match. Neiko won’t be available for adoption until we can figure out what is causing his digestive issues.

Courtney joined us from a shelter in DE where she was not doing well at all. She had been surrendered to the shelter by her owners for being an escape artist (duh ~ she’s a Husky!!!) and she was obviously overwhelmed by the shelter environment. When the shelter contacted us, we quickly made room for her. Courtney is estimated to be 3 – 4 years old and is an absolute love! She is getting along well with her housemates.

A few days after Courtney joined MaPaw, we got a call from another shelter. Two boys that had been found as strays together needed our help. Again, our wonderful foster homes came forward and we were able to find places for both of the handsome pups. So Monday (July 25th) they were both sprung from the shelter and made their way to their foster homes.

Ziggy is estimated to be 1 – 2 years old. He is settling in at his foster home and trying very hard to win over Jak. Ziggy also loves to swim, which is great since his foster home has a pool. Are these dogs spoiled or what?? Check out the video of Ziggy taking a dip.

Steele was the second pup to join MaPaw on Monday. He is also estimated to be 1 – 2 years old. He has the same fun-loving personality as Ziggy. He is having a great time playing with his housemates and cuddling with the humans when it’s time for a break.

I know you’re saying to yourself ~ “Geez, MaPaw, that’s a lot of dogs!” But we’re not done yet, my friends.

On Tuesday (July 26th) we got a call from another area shelter about a young adult male Sibe that had been surrendered by his owners. Unfortunately, the shelter was full and he needed MaPaw’s help. Again, one of our foster homes stepped forward and Rogan was whisked into rescue. He is a cool pup with an awesome personality.

Last week we received a call from someone that knew of a 5 month old female that desperately needed our help. Shelby had been purchased online and was completely unsocialized when she arrived at her new home. Her new owner tried to work with her along with a trainer, but he was just not able to make the progress he wanted with her. He felt that she was not happy and he thought he had no other options for her. When Shelby’s owner found out that we would bring her into one of our experienced foster homes, he jumped at the chance. She joined her foster home on Thursday and within a few hours, she had found her way into her foster Mom’s lap. The photo isn’t great, but we didn’t want to stress her out. Shelby will need time to gain confidence and trust her human caregivers. We expect with the help of the other pups in her foster home, Shelby will become a totally different dog!

I’m not quite done yet, folks! As I write this, there is another pup making her way to her MaPaw foster home. Sadie is a 10 year old that had been adopted from an area shelter. Unfortunately, her adopters felt that caring for a senior was too much work and returned her to the shelter. When the shelter contacted us because they were full, we immediately agreed to bring her into MaPaw. Last update was that Miss Sadie had made a detour for a “spa treatment” courtesy of MaPaw volunteers, Dave and Karen. She should be joining her foster home shortly where she’ll be met with a delicious meal, plenty of pets and, knowing those nosy Huskies, a few snouts in her face!

Whew ~ that was a lot of typing. My paws are tired!! I know ~ if I stayed on top of my blogging, I wouldn’t have this problem. Well, I will try to be better…

Welcome Neiko, Courtney, Ziggy, Steele, Rogan, Shelby and Sadie!

Courtney

Age: 3 – 4 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Courtney!!!

Courtney is a petite gray and white female husky with huge blue eyes. She is estimated to be 3-4 years old and was turned in by her owner after escaping numerous times…. typical for a Siberian who has been bred to run.

Courtney was very frightened in the shelter; however, once she was at her foster home she quickly emerged from her shell! This little sweetie began playing and teasing with the other huskies and offering kisses to all people she meets.

We are getting to know this wonderful pup and enjoy her company. She is friendly with the other dogs and loves to cuddle with people. She is crate trained, trustworthy in the house and just a sweetheart.

Courtney will need to be with us another two weeks while we get to know her better and make sure we match her to her perfect home. She does need some added weight as she is very thin. She has gotten a big “thumbs up” from our vet and will be spayed and micro-chipped this week. And then Courtney will be searching for love!

Deacon

Age: Approximately 5 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Deacon!!!

Deacon is a handsome, friendly  gentleman who is looking for the perfect home. This fluffy guy loves to be pet and will lie contently while you tell him about your day. Belly rubs are a bonus! He’s happiest when he’s with you and is supervising whatever you happen to be doing at the moment. One of his greatest skills is being a foot warmer underneath your desk where he waits patiently for you to finish so that he can join you on the sofa.

Despite his laid back personality, Deacon is very selective about the canine company he keeps and tends to be a little grumbly around children. His ideal home would be adults only – no children or other animals. He will require a 6 foot fence (no invisible fences) since he can easily leap over gates and lower fences.

Deacon loves to go on walks and is probably one of the easiest Siberians we’ve walked on lead. He prefers to take his time and enjoy the view and cheerfully greets passersby that admire him. He is crate trained, trustworthy in the house and behaves nicely at the vet. Deacon would thrive with an adult, dog savvy family that respects him for who he is and will understand and appreciate his sometimes complex personality.

Oreo

Age: 3 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Large

Staying with his family!!!

Oreo is a Siberian Husky/Native American Indian Dog that is three years old. This handsome boy is 85 pounds and is interested in and affectionate with everyone he meets ~ he loves to have people around him.

Oreo enjoys running around the house and fenced yard, being petted and played with, long walks on a leash and he loves to eat – especially when treated with peanut butter! He does well around other dogs and gets along with any type of person, young or old. He is crate trained, trustworthy in the house and obedient (husky style). Due to the breed, this big guy will need to go to a Siberian/NAID or big dog-savvy home.

Oreo is looking for a home where he can be safe and secure – a six-foot fence is a must for this big fellow. He is looking for a best friend to hang out with and enjoy walks or runs and then maybe some quality couch time watching a game.

Falcor Becomes a Permanent Resident

Hello Puppers ~
I’ve really been trying to be better about writing updates, but it seems that I have “summer brain”. I start to come up with an idea of something to write about and then I see a bunny in the yard and it’s all over for my creativity ~ all I can think about is that darn bunny.

If you check out our site often, you are probably familiar with Falcor. He’s a pretty cool little guy that has been with us for awhile. When he first joined his foster home, he was quite scared and wasn’t a huge fan of strangers. His foster Mum was so patient with him and showed him nothing but kindness and lots of love. He soon began following her around and seeking attention from her.

Falcor has been at a few meet and greets. He doesn’t seem to be a huge fan, but I think he likes the car rides (that’s the only reason I keep going to the vet). Because he is so timid, he is usually hiding out behind the table keeping a watchful eye on the festivities around him.

He has become so comfortable in his foster home and with his housemates, that the people at MaPaw feel it’s in his best interest to remain there for the rest of his life. So it’s official ~ Falcor has “retired” to the good life of being spoiled by his foster Mum. He’s one lucky guy, but don’t think he’ll let retirement slow him down ~ he’ll still make himself busy with strolls around the yard and napping in the sun.

Congratulations Falcor!

Falcor

Age: Approximately 11 Years
Sex:
Male

On the Smaller Side

Our dear Falcor has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. When he joined MaPaw, he was a scared little guy who lacked confidence. His foster Mum worked with him and they soon formed an amazingly strong bond. We soon realized that Falcor was already home and he became a permanent resident of MaPaw. Falcor’s passing was unexpected. He was a special little guy and he will be greatly missed by all who had the opportunity to meet him. Dearest Falcor ~ Wear your silver harness with great pride as you dance among the stars, dear friend. Know you are greatly loved and horribly missed. Until we meet again… ~ August 16, 2012

Click here to check out my video on YouTube!

Falcor is a small and very handsome Jindo (Korean dog) who came into MaPaw after losing his way and being found as a stray. He was originally thought to be a Siberian Husky/Shiba Inu mix and is estimated to be eleven years old.

Falcor joined us in November 2009 ~ a very frightened little boy who was not sure what was happening and why he was here. We fear he was abused in the past. Once Falcor knows you, he relaxes a bit and enjoys being petted and shown attention and affection. He is okay with other dogs, but prefers to be on his own in an environment that he is comfortable with.

Falcor likes to take walks, but doesn’t need long ones. He just loves a soft place to rest, a warm hearted person to snuggle with and a gentle hand to give him loving caresses. Being older, he is very calm.

Falcor has formed a very strong bond with his foster mom and for this reason we feel it is in his best interest to become one of our permanent residents. He will be cared for in his foster home where he feels safe and where he is loved. We are so happy Falcor feels safe now and we are glad he is part of the MaPaw family.

In Memory of Ashleigh

Our dear Ashleigh has begun her journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In the past few days, she had become very weak and could not get up on her own. We tried everything to help keep her comfortable. When Ashleigh began to cry because she couldn’t get up and scream when we would try to help her up, we knew she was ready. She was surrounded by love and passed peacefully.

Sweet Ashleigh ~ know that you are greatly missed and loved by many. Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars, free of pain. Candles are lit. ~ July 9, 2011

Mickey

Age: Approximately 8 Months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Mickey!!!

Mickey is a very handsome Siberian mix puppy with stunning eyes, one blue and one brown, and soft, soft ears that just beg to be rubbed. He is approximately eight months old and is a medium size of 35 pounds.

Mickey is a very smart boy – he knows sit, stay, lay and give me paw. He listens well and is quick to learn new commands. He is housebroken and crate trained. He is energetic, playful and affectionate. He is good with other dogs and children, but has that typical husky high prey drive, so he cannot be placed in a home with cats or smaller pets.

Mickey’s family love him very much, but need to find him a good home due to circumstances beyond their control. If you are interested in making Mickey a permanent part of your family, please let us know!
