How 2 of Our Gals Made Their Way to MaPaw…

There are times in rescue when it feels like certain things just fall into place, like they were meant to be. Such is the case with 2 of our pups ~ Jessie and Hope. At first glance, the 2 of them are obviously very different in appearance and personality. Their paths to MaPaw are strangely connected.

It all started when 1 of our volunteers had been alerted to a missing Husky named Jessie that had just run away from her home. The volunteer was visiting family and actually in the process of leaving, when Jessie’s owner had stopped at the driveway to ask if a black and white Husky had been seen. After a brief conversation, it was learned that Jessie had just been adopted privately through a Craigslist ad about an hour before. Her new owners were not familiar with the Husky breed or the instincts that drive them to run if not contained properly. Jessie pushed right through their screen door and off she ran. Obviously it’s bad news when any pup runs away, but this poor pup was in an area that she was not remotely familiar with.

After a sighting in an area near the development where the family lived, MaPaw volunteers spent the next week driving up and down the same stretch of road. We handed out flyers, business cards and talked to everyone we saw. In our travels we found a woman that had actually had Jessie in her house before she managed to escape again. We thought this was the best spot to place the Have-A-Heart trap. Unfortunately, the trap caught a cat the first night it was there. As the woman released the cat from the trap, she turned around to see Jessie watching her. Jessie followed her right into her home where she made sure that Jessie was securely contained before calling MaPaw. As soon as we got the call, we were on our way to pick Jessie up. After talking with her owners, they decided it would be best to find Jessie a Husky savvy home and she joined us at the Farm.

So what does that have to do with Hope? Well while we were searching for Jessie, one of our volunteers placed an ad on Craigslist. Luckily the ad was never removed and about a month ago, we were contacted by a good samaritan that had found a pup running on a very busy street. He said that she was very thin, infested with fleas and had open wounds on her feet. She had been taken to an area shelter, but her owner never came forward to take her home. When the good samaritan found out that nobody had claimed her, he turned to MaPaw for help. The next day, he picked Hope up from the shelter and she was on her way
to her MaPaw foster home.

Today, both girls are doing well. Jessie has been cleared after her week on the run and is looking for her forever home. Hope has been groomed and she looks (and probably feels) a lot better. She is still underweight, but is making progress. Once she is a healthy weight, she will begin her search for a forever home as well.

Maverick

Age: 6 Months
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Maverick!!!

Maverick is a six month old Siberian Husky puppy full of love and life! This poor little guy came into rescue with a skin condition which our vet feels was due to a prior flea infestation and/or a poor diet.

Maverick is responding well to vet treatment and lots of TLC from his foster family. We are very hopeful that once his medicine is finished, he will continue to do well and his itchiness will be a thing of the past with current and future flea preventative and a good diet.

Maverick is wonderful puppy who loves people and kids and gets along well with other dogs. Stay tune for more on this boy, we anticipate he will be available for adoption to the right home in the near future.

Hope

Age: Approximately 10 Months
Sex: Female
Size: Petite

Congratulations Hope!!!

Hope is a tiny little girl that has placed huge paw prints on the hearts of so many people… She was found wandering loose in a very busy and dangerous intersection, starving and wounded. A Good Samaritan spotted the frail puppy and stopped to save her. Injured and dangerously underweight, all the puppy wanted to do was kiss and thank her new friends…

We named her Hope – she brought out hope in so many great people that helped bring her into rescue. She is estimated to be approximately 10 months old. We will never know her sad past, but we do know she will have a wonderful future.

Hope is receiving vet care, good nutrition and lots of TLC. In return she is giving unlimited kisses and love. She will be available for adoption once she heals and is a good weight. Please send sibe vibes for our little peanut, she only weighs 22 pounds!

Kennel Update

Good evening Puppers ~
Check out the progress on the MaPaw kennels!

Here are the humans pouring the concrete into the footers…

Just when things started to seem like they were finally on track, Hurricane Irene roared her way into town. She was a feisty gal that brought with her a lot of wind and rain. Luckily the Farm only lost power for a few hours.

Once the Farm dried out from all of the rain, the humans started building the forms for the concrete walls. This is what the kennel will look like!!!

Once the forms were all up, it was time to pour the concrete!

Mother Nature has not been very cooperative throughout the construction so far, but we are hoping she will calm down long enough for us to finish the construction.

Our “Phase 1” will provide 10 indoor/outdoor kennel runs. These kennels will enable us to help even more dogs. Everyone at MaPaw is so excited and can’t wait until the kennels are finally completed!!

Check back for more updates on the kennels…

Max

Age: 6 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Max!!!

Max is a very handsome six-year-old Siberian Husky with beautiful blue eyes. This friendly fellow has been in his home since he was just a puppy and is loved very much, however, the younger daughter has developed severe allergies to him. The family has no other option but to find him another family that will love him as much as they do.

Max loves people and children of all ages. He is very good around other dogs and has been a member in good standing at the nearby dog park for six years ~ he enjoys his daily trips there. He is mellow around the house and happy just to hang out with the family.

Max is on Phenobarbital and Potassium Bromide for epilepsy, however, his seizures are under control with this inexpensive medicine. This does not slow our happy boy down.

If you are looking for a best friend and loyal companion, please ask us more about Max.

Shelby

Age: 18 Months
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Shelby!!!

Shelby is a 1 year old female Siberian pup that has come a long way… She first came into rescue extremely timid and unsocialized. She loved playing with the other dogs, however, was frightened of people. Gradually Shelby has learned to trust from those she knows and we are very proud of our brave little girl.

Shelby has a great personality, however, she will need a family with patience and a lot of TLC until she gets to know them. Another active canine companion is a must for Shelby ~ she loves to play and she takes example from the other pups in the household.

Shelby has a special friend in rescue she loves to play with ~ see Meadow’s story. It is not necessary for them to be adopted as a pair, but if there is room in your home and heart for two sweethearts, they would be very happy! Please contact us about Shelby and/or Meadow and will be happy to tell you more.

Norma Jean is a 20-month-old Siberian puppy with a love for life. This pretty girl is great with people and other dogs her size or larger. She loves to play a good game of chase with her foster canine friends in her fenced yard and then head inside for some serious couch time and cuddles.

Norma Jean is trustworthy in the home and enjoys being with her family. She is an excellent companion for someone that will provide socialization, exercise and a lot of attention and TLC.

True to her breed, Norma Jean is an escape artist and will need a home that can keep her safe and sound. As social as she is, another canine companion will be best for this little princess as well as someone that is knowledgeable with the breed. Are you looking for a friend to stick by you no matter what? Norma Jean may be just the girl for you!

Rogan

Age: 3 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average

Congratulations Rogan!!!

Rogan is a handsome red and white Siberian estimated to be three years old. He found his way into our rescue after his family turned him in to a shelter because they no longer could care for him.

Rogan is one of the new kids on the block and we are having fun getting to know him. He is a very sweet boy and smart too. He sits on command and although he pulls some on the leash (husky style) he is not a big boy and is easy to handle. He is learning crate training.

If you are interested in Rogan, please contact us and we will be happy to tell you more as we continue to foster him and learn more about his personality. He seems good with other dogs his size or larger, however, true to the breed ~ he is not good with cats.
