In Memory of Beau

beau1

Our dear Beau has begun his journey North of the Rainbow Bridge. In recent days, he was having difficulty getting around and was clearly uncomfortable. He passed surrounded by love.

Dearest Beau ~ Wear your silver harness proudly as you dance among the stars free of the pain that held you back. We are grateful for the time we had with you and honored to have had the opportunity to care for you. You are horribly missed and your absence has left a void. ~ 10/10/2012

MaPaw’s Beef & Beer was a Blast!

GFH

On 3/23/13, MaPaw hosted our Third Annual Beef & Beer Fundraiser at Gilbertsville Fire Company.

We had so many amazing donations which filled our raffle baskets ~ everything from dog toys and treats to chocolate for the humans. A great selection of silent auction items from a basket of cheer to handmade jewelry. We can’t forget about our amazing selection of baked goods that our volunteers baked and packaged for humans and canines.

All of those that attended enjoyed great conversation with friends, new and old, and even some dancing to the tunes provided by our DJ.

Throughout the night, a slideshow was created by our volunteer’s & shown by Denise Stout. It reminds us of all of the pups we have had the pleasure of meeting on their way to their forever homes. Thanks everyone!

A huge thank woo to our sponsors for their support, to all that attended for their support and to all of our volunteers that worked tirelessly to ensure that our event was a successful night!

Congratulations Merlot!

When Merlot joined MaPaw, she quickly became the pup that everyone wanted to add to their family. She absolutely adores people and enjoys the company of other pups.

We knew it wouldn’t take long for Merlot to find the perfect home and we weren’t wrong! She is now the very lucky member of a wonderful family that is dedicated to spoiling her!

Congratulations to Merlot and her new family!

Merlot was adopted on March 16th.

Welcome the New Pups!

We’ve got a few new additions to the MaPaw family that we’d love to tell you about!

This handsome boy is Dempsey, just 2 years old, he’s still a lot of puppy! He’s a bit mouthy when seeking attention and we’re working with him on that. It just seems that this boy never got the training that he needed to help him be a good canine citizen. He is a quick learner and he’s learning every day!

He is good with other dogs his size or larger and spends much of his day romping with the other pups. Dempsey is looking for a sibe-savvy home that will continue with his training.

Mila

mila-mediumAge: 6 Months
Sex: Female
Size: Average

Congratulations Mila!!!

Mila (me-la) is an adorable 6 month old red and white Siberian puppy that will surely charm you. Her mom had a job opportunity that she needed to take. Unfortunately, that left Mila alone for long days. Her mom loved her so much that she put Mila’s needs first and asked us to find her a good home where she would not be alone for so long.

Mila is well behaved for a puppy. She is, however, known to give into Siberian antics and needs a warm, loving home where her training will be continued in a positive manner. She is a smart girl and has already graduated puppy training. She knows sit, down and paw.

Mila has a LOT of energy and will do best in a home with another active canine playmate and an active person that likes to go for walks. She is crate trained, housebroken and trustworthy in the house while people are home and watchful. She is, of course, a puppy and will find mischief if left to her own devices.

Zeus

Congratulations Zeus!!!

Zeus is a 2 year old Lab/Shepherd mix with just enough Husky for good luck. Truth is when we met Zeus and heard his sad story, we knew we wanted to help him. Zeus was originally brought home for a 6 year old child. The novelty wore off and no attempts were made to train him to be a well behaved, loving companion. Instead Zeus was placed in a crate in the basement. With neglect and boredom, he learned to open his crate. He was then chained to a treadmill and remained in the basement like a forgotten toy.

Finally, they took him to a local shelter. Poor Zeus went from a dark lonely basement to a bright and crowded shelter, overwhelmingly noisy from other homeless dogs. He did not do well in this drastic change of environment. Zeus was confused and very frightened, so much so that his chances of adoption were slim. The shelter contacted us knowing Zeus needed some help in becoming the happy dog he should have been.

With a little time and lots of TLC, Zeus is learning to trust people and he is having a ball with the other dogs. He still frightens easily when he first meets strangers, but his confidence grows daily. He is a very affectionate guy who is eager to please.

Zeus will best be placed in a home that will dedicate time and effort to continue with his basic training. He has a lot of puppy in him and he is ready to make up for lost time. If you have room in your heart and are ready to help this guy with a second leash on life, you will receive in return a lifelong companion that just wants to belong and be loved.

Merlot

Congratulations Merlot!!!

Merlot is a very pretty 2 year old red and white husky that is sure to charm you. She loves people and enjoys chasing and playing with other dogs her size. She is a social girl ~ everyone she meets is a friend. This girl loves to talk about any subject with beautiful woo-woos.

Merlot is housebroken and trustworthy in the home. She will do best in a home with older children and another canine playmate to keep her company. She loves walks, car rides and any activity where she can be part of the family.

Merlot is a pretty girl, inside and out, and like her wine namesake; she will only get better with age! If you are looking for a companion to share good times and always be by your side, Merlot would love to meet you!

In Memory of Thunder

thunder-medium

Thunder is a handsome 2 – 3 year old Siberian with shiny bright blue eyes and a tail that wags constantly. He somehow lost his way and found himself being cared for by our friends at the shelter.

The staff witnessed Thunder having a seizure and knowing that the shelter was not the best environment for him, they contacted MaPaw. Thunder touched our hearts as soon as we met him and we were happy to bring him into rescue to give him the help he needed. He did have several other seizures and a trip to the vet ruled out a lot of serious possibilities. He was placed on phenobarbital, an effective and inexpensive medicine given twice a day.

We are watching Thunder closely and are very optimistic that this sweet guy will stabilize on his medications. Many epileptic dogs lead completely normal lives and the seizures are under control once the medicine is completely in their system, usually 2 – 4 weeks.

Thunder is a wonderful Sibe and we are so happy to be here for our bright eye boy.

Gabbi

Congratulations Gabbi!!!

Gabbi is an 8 month old Border Collie/Siberian Husky that lives up to her name! This girl loves everyone and isn’t shy about it. Unfortunately her family felt they could not give her the attention she deserved and wanted the best for this pup.

Gabbi is full of energy! She plays nicely with other dogs and everyone she meets is her new best friend. She is a smart girl ~ she knows sit, paw and down. She just loves belly rubs!

Gabbi is very much a puppy, full of energy and curiosity. Her perfect home will be with a family who will continue with her basic commands and manners, so she will grow to be a wonderful companion. Patience and a sense of humor is a plus!

Gabbi will do best in an active home with another energetic canine playmate. She is a wonderful pup with lots of potential to be someone’s new best friend.

Congratulations Tippy!

Some dogs are only with us a short while until they find their forever homes, but some are with us much longer. Tippy had been with MaPaw since November 2011, patiently waiting for her forever family to find her.

She somehow lost her family and found herself at the local shelter. After nobody came forward to take Tippy home, the shelter contacted MaPaw to help her find her forever home.

Tippy quickly made herself comfortable in her foster home and her true personality started to shine through ~ this girl was ready to take on the world! We soon determined that she was an alpha female (aren’t they all?) and that she needed to be supervised when playing with other dogs. Tippy is a lap dog that loves to cuddle with her humans and never tires of giving kisses.

All that patience finally paid off for Tippy when she journeyed to her forever home on Saturday (January 19th)! Check out the smiles in her adoption photo!
