Meet Vandal, a wonderful, laid-back Siberian whose foster
mom describes as a "Siberian throw rug". We call him Van, a much nicer
name for such a nice dog. It was a sad day at MaPaw
when we found out Van had cancer. After surgery and
an oncology consult we were given the hope we all desperately
wanted – with
chemo Van had excellent odds of survival.
Van started chemo in July and "Van Man" became "Van Can!" as we all cheered him on. He was a trooper and his foster mom devoted a large portion of her time taking him to and from appointments and tempting him with home cooking when his tummy was upset.
We have arranged for Van to get the lifesaving treatments he needs after being assured that any side affects are minimal and Van will not suffer through the treatment. Chemo has started and Van is being a real trooper. He requires oncology visits on a weekly basis and his foster mom is dedicated to running Van to and from his appointments.
Finally November came and it was time to see if the chemo had been successful. We headed out for the all-important ultra-sound that confirmed VAN IS IN REMISSION WITH NO CANCER CELLS! Way to go Big Red! We celebrated on the way home with cheeseburgers for the big guy!
Our heartfelt thank woos to everyone who supported Van and sent well wishes and sibe vibes. Thanks to you, we are able to help these wonderful dogs.
An extra special thank you to Dr. Jeglum and Veterinary Oncology Services and Radiation Center of West Chester and Chalfont for taking such wonderful care of our special sibe!
Van's Last Chemo Treatment
On October 23rd, Van underwent his last chemotherapy treatment. Soon we will know if the treatments were as successful as we hope....
Update: Van's Chemo Treatment was a Success!
In November, Van headed to the Doc for his ultrasound. We were all crossing our fingers and paws for good news. We are elated to announce that our Big Red is in remission with NO cancer cells!! It will be a while before Van will be able to actively look for his forever home. The chemotherapy took a toll on his body, but certainly not his spirit. His foster Mom is making sure that he gets everything he needs to get his strength back so he can find his forever home. His beautiful red coat is starting to grow in again and he's getting plenty of TLC!

family an email.
