We have so many great dogs needing forever homes. Please come back and visit often for updates. The first step in adoption is to complete our on line application. Please Note: Our adoption process includes home visits and our adoption area is limited to 100 miles of Philadelphia, Pa.

Due to the Siberian Husky's High Prey Drive, we DO NOT recommend placing them in homes with cats or other smaller pets.

February's Dog of the Month

Jack

Age: Approximately 4 - 5 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available

Jack is a handsome husky who apparently lost his way when frightened by the noise and the fireworks on Fourth of July. We cannot imagine losing such a wonderful boy but no one has come forward to claim him and he is ready to find a forever home and start his second leash on life.

Diesel

Age: Approximately 1 Year
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available

Meet Diesel, a young Husky/Great Dane mix who is looking to find his furever best friend. Diesel is a fun loving boy who enjoys playing and cuddling. He is good with other dogs, loves everyone and will make a wonderful companion. He is still a youngster, so he is full of energy (for this reason, we recommend he be placed in a home with older children). When it comes to those quiet times, he enjoys laying at your feet or in your lap.

Duncan

Age: Almost 2 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available

Duncan is just shy of two years and is a handsome red and white puppy guaranteed to make you grin! He is a friendly, wonderful boy that was initially in a home unfamiliar with the Siberian breed and too large for the household and a toddler beginning to walk. Another family member took him in, however, with no fenced yard and physically unable to walk Duncan and give him the exercise a young Siberian needs.

Indian

Age: Approximately 2 -3 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available

Indian is a handsome young male Siberian Husky estimated to be two to three years old. He somehow lost his family and ended up on the street until our friends at the shelter took him in.

Indian is a tall, lanky boy who is full of life and energy. He is crate trained and trustworthy in the house, but stuffed animals beware! His favorite toys are Kong squeaky toys, tennis balls and nylabones. After a good play session, Indy is happy to quiet down and is quite a snuggler.

Lucky

Age: Approximately 12 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average
Status: Available

Lucky, however, has lived up to her name. Lucky is lucky that she had a wonderful family that cared about her enough to seek options for her to continue on. She is lucky that timing was perfect and they met a caring MaPaw volunteer when they inquired at the local shelter asking for guidance. And Lucky was lucky when the folks at MaPaw took one look at this senior sibe and knew she deserved a second leash on life to find a comfy spot to spend her golden years.

Natasha

Age: 12 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average
Status: Available

Natasha is a beautiful, gentle lady of twelve years that is a casualty of divorce. She has been a pampered, loved Siberian all of her life, but unfortunately finds herself needing a new family to love. Natasha is a wonderful companion, excellent in the house, fantastic with children and other dogs. She is housebroken, good on a leash (for a husky) and is crate trained, although crating is probably not necessary.

Papillon

Age: 1 Year
Sex: Female
Size: Petite
Status: Available

Miss Papillon is one of approximately 100 dogs recently rescued by authorities in Canada. These sled dogs were underweight and lacking proper care and shelters and rescues worked together to bring the dogs into safety.

Papillon ~ or known here at MaPaw as Papio ~ is a petite, one year old girl who is surprisingly socialized. She came into rescue a bit skittish and uncertain, but quickly gained confidence as she made friends. She loves to play with other dogs and is thriving on human affection and companionship.

Riley

Age: 3 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available (Special Needs) ~ Courtesy Post for A Buddy for Life

Riley was found as a stray on Thanksgiving Day by a woman who decided to befriend him and take him in. She discovered quickly that he was blind. She wanted to keep him but her landlord would not allow her to do so.

Since then, Riley has been in the care of "A Buddy for Life", a Delaware dog rescue. He has been to a specialist, Dr. Bowersox at the Veterinary Specialty Center. Riley has been diagnosed with Uveodermatologic Syndrome. US is an immune-mediated disease where the body inappropriately attacks its own pigment producing cells. He has very limited vision in his right eye, and none in his left. Riley did have some inflammation in both eyes but with the help of antibiotic drops, they have cleared up. Dr. Bowersox strongly believes that Riley can live a long happy life with this condition. However, he did suggest that his eyes be watched and checked yearly.

Van

Age: 7 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Available

Meet Vandal, a wonderful, laid-back seven-year-old Siberian whose foster mom describes as a "Siberian throw rug". He is a perfect houseguest with no demands and loves any attention he can get. We call him Van, a much nicer name for such a nice dog that has won all of our hearts. We find it hard to believe, but Van was turned into a high volume, center city shelter where his future was in jeopardy.

We welcomed Van into Rescue and scheduled a vet visit to have the big guy checked over and neutered. It was a sad day when we learned Van had tumors that were later determined to be cancer. This gentle boy really needed our help! After surgery an appointment was scheduled with an oncologist and after a consult, ultrasound and x-rays we were given the hope we all desperately wanted - with chemotherapy Van had excellent odds of survival!

Kito

Age: 12 Years
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Currently Receiving Medical Care

Kito is twelve years old and is a very sad Siberian who we immediately fell in love with. His human daddy died days before Christmas and Kito was delivered to the shelter. Of course, he is mourning his daddy and has no idea what went wrong. At the shelter, he went into shock and could not eat or drink.

Kito just came into our rescue after an emergency phone call from the shelter and this sad Siberian was welcomed by all. Despite the weakness and malnutrition he greeted us and just laid his tired head in our lap ~ and captured our hearts.

Tex

Age: Approximately 1 Year
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Currently Receiving Medical Care

Tex had been beaten so badly his eye was damaged beyond repair and then he was dumped in a stranger's yard. A Good Samaritan found him and arranged for the vet care he so desperately needed. By some miracle this little guy survived everything.

Word traveled fast about the terrible abuse this young Siberian mix suffered, however, we were unsure how we could help him while on the other side of the country. Seems like Tex was meant to be a MaPaw dog; his Good Samaritan was planning a trip out east and offered to bring him to our rescue. Tex's condition stabilized and he was able to make his journey to MaPaw where we welcomed him with open arms.

Triska

Age: Approximately 13 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average
Status: Currently Receiving Medical Care

Triska is a striking Siberian Senior with a sad tail… For unknown reasons she found herself at a shelter and very depressed. The shelter felt she had both limited vision and was deaf. However, once Triska entered our rescue we were able to confirm she did have relatively normal sight and only has "husky selective hearing" (listens when she wants too).

Triska was named from the word, "triskele", an ancient symbol for three. (She is now the third current Siberian with her foster home). The name is also from triskaideka, meaning thirteen. She was pulled on Friday the thirteenth and she is estimated to be thirteen years old.

Aero

Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Permanent MaPaw Resident

Aero never knew what it was like to be a pet. He never had a chance. We were contacted by a busy city shelter to alert us to a cruelty case involving a Siberian who was dangerously thin, filthy and matted.

Our hearts went out to Aero when we met him ~ his muscle mass had deteriorated, his confidence had faltered and yet he looked up at us with a glimmer of hope… and the tail wagged ever so softly. We knew we had to try and put the pieces together again for this broken and abused Siberian.

Boston

Age: Adult
Sex: Male
Size: Average
Status: Permanent MaPaw Resident

Boston was going through a rough time when we met him. There had been so many major life changes in his life ~ new house, new baby, new elderly family member moving in. Life became too much of a challenge for him. When pushed, Boston developed behavioral issues and was clearly an unhappy boy.

In an initial evaluation, however, we saw a great potential in this young red and white Siberian. He seemed confused, however, was eager to please. We felt Boston had been dealt a bad hand in life and decided to work with him and give him a second leash on life.

Callie

Age: 2 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average
Status: Permanent MaPaw Resident

Callie is a special girl ~ we tell her that each and every day. Callie is an epileptic and suffers from severe, multiple (cluster) seizures. She came into rescue when she was only a ten-month-old puppy and had been suffering from seizures shortly after birth. Her family was unable to provide the medication and environment necessary to monitor this little girl.

Maxie

Age: 14 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Petite
Status: Permanent MaPaw Resident

Maxie is a petite and spunky fourteen-year-old young Siberian who makes instant friends with everyone she meets. Sadly, Maxie found her way into our rescue after being abandoned in a foreclosed and vacant house. Thank goodness, a Good Samaritan called the Animal Abuse Hotline and Maxie was saved.

Brandy

Age: 2 Years
Sex: Female
Size: Average
Status: Adoption Pending
Brandy is a two-year-old Siberian Husky whose past is a mystery to us. We first met this sweet girl at a local shelter where it was apparent that she was depressed and needed some TLC. She was very happy to go for a walk and really enjoyed being petted. Brandy was soon leaning against us just basking in the attention and affection and asking for more. Brandy is not good with other dogs and pets and will need to be placed as an only dog.

Princess and Snowball

Age: 10-ish Years
Sex: Female / Male
Size: Average
Status: Adopted
Princess (F) and Snowball (M) are two seniors that have bonded together completely. Where one goes, the other follows. They are at a wonderful stage in their life; they are happy and content as long as they have each other and a family they can love. They enjoy taking walks and going for car rides.

Princess and Snowball were turned into a high volume, center city shelter at an estimated age of 10-ish. Bewildered and frightened in this strange, crowded, noisy environment they huddled together not knowing what would come next. When we met them, we knew right away they were wonderful dogs that deserved a new leash on life.

Sometimes you just can't say No. Meet Kira, one of the new kids on the block. A Husky? We fell hook, line and sinker for this sweetheart and made her an honorary Siberian.
